Australia fires

That's not what that means.

It's more implying, that you are a bunch of rednecks.

Not my words mind you. I love Austrailia, I just don't wanna ever go there.

Australia sucks in many ways, but our 'redneck to general populace ratio' would be roughly the same as yours. Whichever grapevine you got that from has its perception slightly skewed.

Our issue is not so much with rednecks, but rather with ethnic immigration and a cultural stew that doesn't mix together very well at all. If anything a 'no foreign fat chicks' sticker very early on would've saved Oz a lot of heartache.

I don't really know what to think about Oz anymore, but the only consistent conclusion I can draw is that I don't like the place. The crux of it is that all the poorest and very worst of people came here early on to make a 'new start'. With them came all their inherent cultural/racial prejudice, so lo and behold when they all found themselves in the same soup, on a desert island, several thousand kilometers from the rest of the world.

But as far as rednecks go, don't worry. Just come to Melbourne, hang out in the city and I promise you'll feel like you're in China, not Australia :)

@GH: Glad to hear you made it out of the worst of it okay. Didn't realize you were worrying about your home while we were out at the gig!

I haven't really been able to keep up to date as I've been in the studio day in and out, but it's disappointing to see that we're still so much at the mercy of what nature (and psychopath pyros) throw at us.

fire sucks. i've lost a home to fire. it's no fun to go through. on another note....i used to want to goto oz for visit, until i saw that one demotivational poster with that HUGE fucking spider with its own goddamn life bar. (i know, the lifebar was fake) Fuck that.

What countries are the larger groups of immigrants in Oz from, Ermz? I take it China is one, and probably a lot of SE Asia (I just watched "The Protector," a Thai ass-kicker movie which nevertheless mostly takes place in Oz)

And if you ever feel like you wanna bail on Oz, come live on the east coast of the USA! It's not so bad over here :)

The Protector is a cool movie, but worst storyline ever. And Jaa would never be able to take Nathan Johnson or whatever that dude's name is.

I forgot where I heard about the redneck thing. I've always liked New Zealand, and I just assumed Aussies were like a harder more rough Brit.
That prolly sounds retarded and it is.

Massachusetts is full of douchebags too. I'm certain no matter where you are it's going to suck to some extent. Lately I've just been hating being alive.

Fat people are people too.

Haha, well being the animal lover that I am, I thought all the footage of the reverence and respect they had for the elephants was moving and beautiful (and thought Khorn the baby elephant was adorable), but once he got to Sydney and the whole crime lord business became the focus it got pretty dumb. BUT HOLY SHIT were the fights awesome IMO - I love all the flying knee-ing that he did, damn, and that whole segment with him going up the spiral ramp for like 4 floors just kicking everyone's ass was so well-done. ANYWAY... :D

Yeah , that's a pretty Hollywood representation of what Muay Thai really is, but it's got some good fight scenes nontheless, and I copped a few of his moves for my own MMA arsenal. Including his awesome kick checks and a few of his elbow attacks.

Oh man, and I just remembered, he did all those awesome throws and grapples too; I mean, the guy can't weigh more than 170 lbs., but the size people he was just hurling around was nuts.

That's pretty much what all Australians are like.

Back on topic.. these fires pretty much suck. Last I heard the count was predicted to reach 300, and almost 1000 homes had been destroyed.

^ Oh god... well yeah, there's the redneck aspect. I had a few of those hassling me at some live sound gigs. It really depends where you are... they tend to concentrate around Dandenong and thereabouts.

@Marcus: We get a ton from Asia. In the earlier days a lot of Italians, Greeks, people from the Balkans (like yours truly), Middle East etc. The Italians, Greeks and Middle Eastern guys (mainly lebanese) tend to constitute a large portion of what I dealt with during school and such. That's the area I've been lumped into.

The city populace is about a 50/50 split between people from Asia and the rest of the world. Actual 'Australians' (Ie. people who have some kind of heritage here for a few generations) are fairly few and far between.

To be honest, I was just glad to be out of there. That was my main concern. The house was secondary. Obviously I was happy it was still standing after the fact though.

Hahahahaha, uh oh, looks like Ermin's having bad flashbacks of too many swirlies and book-dumping :heh:
