So in my search for a new cab, I checked out Avatar's site and noticed they have a new cab style, called 'Contemporary'. This thing looks beefy as hell! Reminds me of the size of an Orange...

So, I was going to purchase an Uberkab, or an Orange PPC, but now I may grab one of these.... Under $600 loaded? Shit, that's cheap. And if it's anything like their other cabs, it should be more than worth the money. And seeing as how they are completely custom at no extra charge(tolex, piping, grill, speakers, logo, etc), I don't see how it can be a bad deal.

Just curious if anybody has or has used this new model....

Dude...it may be good for the money, or even just good regardless of price, but I have some serious moral objections in principle to the idea of a custom guitar plugged into a Herbert...going into an Avatar

I was tempted to buy the 2x12 contemporary, i own 3 avatar cabs now, i love´em, i have the vintage 2x12 and i like more than any marshall i tried, i also have an old Avatar with carpet instead of tolex, is a smaller one but sound so good, i just purchased a new 2x12 traditional with open back that i haven´t tried yet.

This must be as good as it looks, if you buy it would be nice if you comeback with a review.

Well, the consequences of buying those are starting to show lol

Besides, as it stands now, they will be going into a Peavey cab loaded with V30's..... I have a feeling the Avatar will be a bit more classy then that.

I might drop the dough on one here shortly.... I have heard the Vintage Avatar on some clips and it sounds just as good as anything else out there.... I gotta order soon so I can have it when I come home in September :headbang:

For the price of an Avatar new though, you could get a mint used Mesa cab (rectifier or traditional), cuz the market is so saturated with them, they don't hold their value at all (at least here in the good ol' US ;))

I was considering that also:kickass:

Avatar makes great cabs. Don't let the price fool you. The contemporary cabs are supposed to be like Orange cabs. Actually, I heard that since Orange started making their cabs differently, the Avatars are actually a little better now, but I don't remember the details of what I had heard.

i Just tried my new Avatar cab, and men, it´s fuckin awesome, im loving it!!, the speakers are not broken in yet, but it sound so sweet. and yeah don´t let the price fool you, for it´s value is the best deal.

lol, I kinda feel you dude. But all things considered I bet this is a great combo with that head, and I think the cab looks pretty sweet.

I am recommending one of these to my brother. He is young and pretty ignorant with guitar stuff. He was going to buy a marshall MG cab for $100 of someone locally. :puke:

HEY MAN I HAVE A MARSHALL MG CAB

and you're right, they're totally :puke:

it doesn't sound too awful in the room, but goddamn if it isn't worthless with a mic in front of it

Yeah I was reading about that, supposedly that was the point of the Contemporary, to compete with the thick and heavy orange cabs. It's only seven pounds lighter, and constructed with the same materials, so it's gotta be close. I'm really considering one now. $1000 vs. $550? I'm sold.

BTW if you add up the price of what the materials cost, you are practically getting the 4 speakers for free when you buy from Avatar.

Now I just have to decide on speakers... I already have my XXX cab with 4 V30's, so I may get a V30 and G12H30 mix, or maybe V30 and G12T75... I don't know, I hear the Herbert has a slight muffled sound to it, so maybe having 4 V30's would brighten it up a bit....

Don't be fooled by the price... I A/B'd my used $200 Avatar cab with my new Krank, and the in-house Basson and Mesa cabinets in the studio last week, and the Avatar smoked them all! I was pissed!

man, some guy just listed an avatar 2x12 with V30's on craigslist a couple days ago...he didn't say which type, but i'm guessing it's the vintage...might be a good match for my krank when it shows up

i e-mailed him, and it's the traditional 2x12 with black metal grill...which should match the black-grilled rev jr. pretty well

looks like i'm going to have to pull the trigger on this one, also...

Sweet dude, I'm sure that'll still sound great, especially because it's not the Vintage, meaning not a Bogner 2x12 clone, meaning not fizzy garbage :heh: What color is it, btw?
