Since I seem to be the forum's main shred fan I won't expect too many orgasms over this but I felt I had to post some totally awesome videos.

1. Nevermore: Chris Broderick & Jeff Loomis Guitar Duel

This is plain awesome.

2. Steve Vai in 'Crossroads' Guitar Duel (aka Eugene's Trick Bag)

A great film and possibley the most epic guitar battle ever.

3. Michael Angelo Batio - No Boundaries

Mindless speed to some. Technical perfection to others. Either way listen out for my favouite bit - Paganini's 5th ;)

Oh and feel free to post your own personal favourite guitar solos of all time.

This really reminds me of one of my favouite Vai songs "Sisters" off Passion and Warfare (his best album I reckon :) )

Anyone remember John Miles? Anyway the solo on Overture taken from the album Zaragon that came out in 78 was just WOW....

Well, for a boy aged 14 at the time that is. Damn i'm getting old:p

Really?

I thought it would have been Randy Rhoads or Yngwie to a lesser extent

Well Eruption introduced the finger tapping technique which pretty much revolutionised playing and predated Yngwie and Randy ... think it came out in 1979? Will check ...

EDIT : Sorry 1978 ... old age catching up with me ... oldest video I could find ... quality is crap but then it is mega old ...

YouTube - Van Halen 78-79

Not that I don't enjoy a good bit of shreddin...but it can get to a point where ALL musicality disappears and it's just speed for the sake of speed.

Check out the "fastest shredder in the world" as he plays a load of sweeping scales at 38bps:

Tiago Della Vega

Then check out the piss take video
