BELGRADE, Serbia -- Police in Serbia have arrested a former army officer wanted for war crimes after violent clashes with a crowd trying to protect the fugitive.

B-92 radio said commandos used stun grenades, tear gas and rubber bullets to fight back supporters of former Yugoslav National Army Colonel Veselin Sljivancanin, and after a 10-hour standoff eventually stormed his Belgrade apartment.
