This isn't surprising. Lady Gaga is a real metalhead, and this is probably got a lot of her doing in it. I know Baby Metal isn't .. ehm.. traditional? But I'd venture to say this is her trying to push the envelope of cross genre exposure.

Good for her. I think she's awesome for doing things like this.

Probably because they are being marketed as a metal band and therefore, yes, most of the people hearing them are not familiar with the genre.

Well..... I suppose it is a hybrid-metal band. Not the first time this has happened.

Here is what I see about Baby Metal when I look closely. I saw a live video of them and you have REAL musicians out there playing their collective asses off. On the other side of it, you have a 17 year-old lead singer and two 15 year-old backup singers who did not know what metal music was before this band was formed, having sang J-Pop for their short careers. Having said that, these girls have to learn all of these songs, dance moves and tour the world while keeping up with their school studies.
Are these girls ahem...... "troo metal ?" Probably not, but are they consummate professional entertainers at a young age ? I think so.
It isn't my "cup of tea" so to speak, but they are super cute (and I certainly mean that in an innocent way) and I frankly have heard much worse. I wish them well. And who knows, maybe it will start a metal trend for young people in Japan.
