Bass tone.....

Apart from the new strings, I hear a good bass tone there. It's even too clean for what it's usually heard in metal.

What are you really looking for?

Im after a ballsy tone with some grit. I dont want to sound like Peter Iwers but some distortion wouldnt go a miss.

Just wondering what other people are doing for treating a DI bass i guess...

Every single person in the RMM section is asking for "production tips" on how to make their tone/mix better, just saying

Fair enough dude. I'll see if i can move it over or just make another thread :zombie:

Well i see your a bass player bro, any tips for a guitarist trying to make himself sound like a REAL bass player? Do you mic up a cab or use a sim and impulses when your recording bass?

it's cool dude not trying to be an asshole, I'm just a bit of a cleanliness freak on the internet

well, playing-wise I reccomend you read this thread http://www.ultimatemetal.com/forum/andy-sneap/624791-tips-guitarist-playing-bass.html

and production-wise, there's a million ways to make a bass sound kickass, and that can include mic'ing a cab or not. Personally I don't have experience with mic'ing cabs, so far it's been using DIs and sometimes ampsims (ampeg Svx is pretty good). A quick search through the custom sneap search made me dig up a few good bass tone threads, some pretty old but perfectly valid:

Edit: your tone doesn't sound too bad but maybe not what you're looking for. If you post your entire chain and any processing you're doing we could help better. Oh and what tuning, and what string gauge are you using? on such low tunings gauge can be the difference between heavy and a pile of diarrhea

Rather than wasting time about where this should be, wyllie drop me a pm man.

YES! New strings are the biggest difference between bullshit and a nice clean in your face tone.

Boil your strings for a while, put them back on, good to go!

Yo man, you working at a studio or from home? Dont know if you remember me but I used to play guitar for Act of Brutality a few years back. Whats been good?

Hey man, currently working at home making my own studio. I am moving with my Family into an a lot bigger place going to try and build a nice set up somewhere in my new place. Two rooms, treated a little. haven't done much recording ever since i finished my last production with was a full length which is probably going on a label. which was in the end of august. now with the move, I am set back. especially since i just made another room, nothing special but still. It's nice how i always find people on this forum how's it going with you man?

Apologies for stealing this thread with a completely off topic conversation. :p
