Anyone got any tips on recording Bass ?

I'm never happy with the sound I get. I like the sound that 'Peavey' gets in Rage, ie smooth/growly with nice low-mids, but not boomy.

Anyone got any multi-band freq tips ? I play 5 string, so a lot of low-B stuff...

best to mic & DI it, or OK to use a Bass POD ?

I've got very good results w/ an Avalon 737 and good results w/ a Meek VC6... both just direct.

I've had great results out of the peavey Firebass rig recently using a shure beta 52. I also use amp farm on the DI and get a real mid range dirtyness and filter out lows to avoid phasing. I'll use a small pair of walkman speakers to put this track in the mix. Also, I'll use the c4 comp on the DI and squash the bass if it has alot of nasty things going on, especially finger players.

What you mean by "pair of walkman speakers?
Do you switch your monitoring when mixing the bass?
