beautiful songs

ulver's "halling" makes me want to sleep peacefully under an oak tree in the enchanted forest of weatherwood, aside a trickling stream of crystal flowing from the base of the mountain... surrounded by furtive woodland creatures and rolling mist.**

amorphis' accoustic version of "my kantele" is stunning as well... excecpt sadder. this song got me through several broken relationships... in that sitar outro you can FEEL the longing and desperation common to every person. so so so so good...

arcturus' "ad astra'... this song is so lovecraft that it ain't even funny. makes me think of abandoned, rotting mansions, the necronomicon, wretched family histories and the town of arkham. especially the strings (violin?)... twisted chamber music.

"nocturne for piano and violin" by chopin... okay, no words here. no words at all.

**even i don't know what the hell i am talking about

Ulver - I Troldskog Faren Vild
Prior to hearing this I never thought blast beats could be beautiful, in a peaceful way.

Bach - not sure of the proper name, something with Air in the title
Oh man, all of Bach is stunning, but this brief piece is far too good for words.

Black Sabbath - Sabbra Cadabra
This is the greatest love song ever. I rarely take metal love material seriously, but this one is great. Plus that piano groove section at the end is just awesome.

A Perfect Circle - Blue
This song sounds so sweet and pretty, but knowing Maynard's sick style it's probably about shagging a bird up the tail pipe. :loco:

I guess this is all in how you interpret "beautiful" right? Well, here's a quick selection:

Ulver - "Halling" (Kveldssanger). For those times that you need to turn off the TV, forget about the bombings, and just escape. This song reminds me of my 2 year old daughter, she being completely oblivious to all the bad things out there.

Emperor - "Cosmic Keys to my Creations and Times" (Nightside Eclipse). When people talk about Black Metal being "beautiful", this is the song that epitomizes that beauty. If you don't see that, then just give it time. It eventually falls into place.

Empyrium - "Waldpoesie" (Weiland - chapter 2). Is there anything on this planet more mournful and sorrowful? Well, if there is, it's not in my CD collection. Those strings that fade in and eclipse everything else, until they're the only remaining instruments...beautifully sad.

Pachelbel - "Canon in D". Well, what words to use here...?

Yeah it could be any of those 3 given that wacky font they used back then. Where's Erik, I'll bet he knows.

G-STRING!!! :D
