Ok, here's the story: on christmas eve I bought an older Apogee Rosetta 200 2 channel AD converter on ebay. It's a 2001 model, so not the newest version. What I didn't notice in my christmas buying rush was that it doesn't have a DA section like the new Rosetta.

The idea was to finally upgrade my home/songwriting studio with quality converters.

My problem is now: the Rosetta will be ADing into my M-Audio Delta 66s SPDIF input, but since the Rosetta doesn't have a DA section, I will have to continue to use the Delta 66s DA/output section.

Of course the input quality will now be higher than before, but I wonder if I am not taking away a lot of "quality" during mix when still listening to the playback through the Delta 66?

Other than immediately selling the Apogee again, what options are there?

Any help is appreciated.

If you use the rosetta as the master clock, it will still improve the playback by reducing the jitter (theorically at least) . So maybe It's not that bad.

I had the same concerns a while back. I currently have a Delta 1010 and a Lavry Blue A/D running through the spdif of the 1010 while monitering out of my Delta DA. I was concerned that 1) the delta card was not going to be up to snuff 2) I was neglecting my AD gains because I was not going to noitce them. I did some research and was suprised to see a lot of high end studios have been using the delta cards in the same manner with no worries. The card has little to no effect on the audio quailty because all it does is shift numbers. The same can not be said about other cards though. The guys at mercenary contacted M-Audio to ask if there cards did any trunceting or if it was a lossless shift. M-Audio assured us that it was fully lossless. So, your AD side is fine. In regards to the DA side I noticed a improvment because I was clocking to the Lavry. The same should apply in you situation.

Nice! Thanks for the info. The Apogee clock would automatically be used via the SPDIF connection?
