I'm going to be buying a 9mm pistol very soon. Hopefully by Monday. I want to pick up a new hobby & have some protection for my home.

I'm open to suggestions, but so far I really like the look & feel of the Beretta PX4. The Beretta 92FS is the flagship Beretta, but it's heavier & I don't like the look of it as much. It's also like $100 more, but that's no big deal.

So many people seem to swear by Glock, but I think they feel a lot cheaper in my hand. Is there much of a difference in the kick back of the Glock 17C as compared to the Glock 17?

Also, I have yet to actually shoot a hand gun, but I want to have some fun with it.

Glock 17C is tits man. Infinitely better than the rest of them.

edit: The 17C was one of the first Glocks with groves carved into the slide and barrel to reduce recoil even more. If there is a huge difference in price between the two, go for the cheaper one because you'll never be able to tell the difference.

I'd go with 'none' and find a less destructive hobby.

Leave the hall, faggot.

Cant really go wrong. You arent going to carry a full size pistol. So weight shouldnt matter.
9mm recoil is nothing.
With Glock you are getting a proven design. Its light, easy to use and clean, very few parts and the parts are everywhere online. And glock holsters and lights are abundant.

Smith and wesson MP are also good
springfield xd is also good
Sigs are good

just dont let some idiot tell you something is better.

Glad you are getting a gun, train with it and have fun. Safety is #1

I was thinking about that one. The 17C is only $25-30 more than the 17. I really don't like the fact that Glock's have no safety though. I might get my concealed permit in the future. If I ever feel like carrying the weapon the no safety thing is a turn off. I'm a total n00b when it comes to hand guns though, so I may be worrying about nothing.

I like H&Ks and SIGs personally.

Out of my budget though :(

Thanks man. Do you think a 9mm is suitable for a first gun, or would you recommend looking into getting a 10mm or .40caliber instead?

Oh & you didn't vote!

Have you thought about used? I know they can be pricey new. My SIG 45 was quite expensive brand new.

I got a 45 because I decided to just go big or go home, but there have been times I wish I had went with a .40, it's like the perfect "middle" caliber.

I hear more people recommending that I get a .40 as opposed to a 10mm. Why is that? .45 is way out of the question though. My buddy had a Desert Warrior .45 & that thing was ridiculous. Like a shotgun in a gun the size of a regular 9mm but louder.

9mm is perfectly fine for self defense... If you have the right loading.
Such as Speer Gold dots. excellent defense ammo. Dont ever use normal full metal jacketed ammo for self defense. It does nothing but over penetrate.

10mm is a hunting cartridge for the most part I think. and I have a Walther P99 in .40sw.
I dont like the snap of the .40 and 9mm is alot cheaper.

I didnt vote because I've only fired the G17 and none of the others.

the non safety on the Glock is what makes it great. If a gun is in the holster, it wont go off. pretty simple. less parts, less crap to get into the way, your finger is the safety.

I guess I should invest in a holster with trigger protection if I go Glock. I like Glock, but I like the look & feel of the Beretta & M&P better, but I haven't fired any of them yet.
