I vote for Work of Art: In Progress

If you like AOR-style melodic rock along the lines of Toto, Journey, and Giant or even 1980s Yes, you definitely should check this Swedish band out.

I couldn't possibly pick just one release but some of my favorites are:
  • Planning for Burial - Untitled and Late Twenties Blues (Hard to describe but fantastic music - http://planningforburial.bandcamp.com/)
  • Burzum - Fallen (Black Metal)
  • Tom Vourtsis - Mothhunting (Superb Drone - http://tomvourtsis.bandcamp.com/album/mothhunting)
  • Phideaux - Snowtorch (Progressive Rock)
  • Airs - Airs//Lunaire Split and Gloomlights (Black Metal meets Indie meets Shoegaze meets Post-Rock. Try it if you've got an open mind - http://airs.bandcamp.com/)
  • Whirr - Distressor EP (Best Shoegaze released since Souvlaki - http://whirrband.bandcamp.com/album/distressor)
  • Det vackra livet - Det vackra livet (Post-Punk from Sweden with beautiful soundscapes)
  • Giles Corey - Giles Corey (Best way I can describe it would be horror-folk/country. It is completely unique, beautiful and frightening)
  • Tangled Thoughts of Leaving - Deaden the Fields (Post-Rock)
  • sleepmakeswaves - ...and So We Destroyed Everything (Post-Rock]
  • Arch/Matheos - Sympathetic Resonance (Progressive Metal)
  • Steve Wilson - Grace for Drowning (Progressive Rock)
  • Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds - Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds (Alternative Rock)
  • Mint Julep - Save Your Season (Electronic Indie, once again with beautiful soundscapes and vocals)
And that became way more then I had thought, haha. Lots of great music this past year for sure and I still have a few albums I haven't listened to (Kate Bush, Neal Morse for example).

So far for me its Subsignal - Touchstones. A fantastic sophomore effort from the former members of Sieges Even. My buddy and I finalize our best of lists on February 1st...gives us a chance to try to get all of the years must listens in.
