Hey guys, I have been on this search I guess you can call it to find the best cover song ever. I found two that I love that I could listen to all day.

When I hear this song, I pretty much crapped my pants. I love this song, I think Ascension is a great band. :kickass:

My showed me this song, and I think it's awesome. I don't know who does it, so maybe someone could tell me? anyways I think it's one of the best covers I heard next to Listen To Your Heart.

Let me know what covers you guys like, I would love to hear them.

Good thread! I have over 500 cover songs in my iTunes cover songs playlist. In my opinion, cover songs can vary in quality greatly - from fantastic to horrid! Sonata Arctica and Dream Theater are probably my favorites for cover songs. I have so many by both bands that it would be too hard to list favorites by them here. Some of my favorites from other bands are below. The first 2 are surprisingly Abba tunes.

Helloween - Lay All Your Love On Me

Charisma - Money Money Money (Rich Man's World)

...and for creativity by going in a completely different direction from the original:

Nevermore - The Sound Of Silence

Vision Divine - Take On Me

...I'm sure many people will disagree with me on this one, but I've always much preferred this version of Bad Moon Rising to the original. I was never a CCR fan, though.

Leatherwolf - Bad Moon Rising

Saigon Kick - Space Oddity

(could only find a live version on youtube)

I love that ABBA cover by Rob Rock (in duet with Tobias Sammet of Edguy/Avanatasia):

If that counts - this is a great cover of Pachelbel's canon done by Jacob's Dream:

Cool thread - some great covers here.

The best cover I ever heard was an amazing hybrid mix of Smoke On The Water and My Sharona by Aussie Glam-Thrash-Punk-Gospel-Rock masters "The Toerags", appropriately titled "Smoke On Sharona" - truly epic!
Tragically The Toerags broke up in 1992 with very few recordings to their credit, leaving behind a few die hard fans with very happy memories...

One of my favorites is acutally a really new one. Five Finger Death Punch's version of Bad Company (originally by Bad Company)

Great covers. Some more covers I love.

Pretty much anything from Powerglove is good. All they do is covers :p

Not really metal, but I still think it's awesome.

Love Elvenking. Penny Dreadful is done by Skyclad, but I think this one is better.

Rush tribute band. This is the best CD I own. Different people do different songs, like on this song Jack Russell is lead vocals, Michael Romeo is lead Guitar, Mike Pinnella keyboards, Mike Portnoy on drums, Billy Sheehan bass, Brendt Allman rhythm guitar. All and all, it's an amazing CD. :p

Hammerfall has quite a few good covers, this is the first that I could think of.

I'm not a big punk fan, but I like this cover.

My favourite currently is "You Are a Pirate" by Alestorm, a cover from a song on Lazy Town.

Ascension did amazing on that cover though, if you like it please buy a copy of the single from their shop. Its only two and a half British pounds and the money goes to a charity to prevent youth suicide. Its for a great cause really.

I bought the Lazy Town version last year - great song (except for the hideous excuse of a voice that cute pink haired girl has). Glad to hear Alestorm's rendition, but I don't like it any better than the original. Sorry.

To whoever posted that Rob Rock cover of Abba w/ Sammet! Good taste man! I love that cover :))

This is a nice little playlist, good job everybody...I won't post anything to clutter it up, at this point I believe you've all heard all the good ones :)

Any cover that Johnny Cash ever did (that Hurt one is phenomenal). Also, I love this cover of The Flaming Lips' Waiting For Superman by Iron and Wine: That's probably my favorite cover song. I'm also partial to this cover of Radiohead's Let Down by David Bazan
