Iowan,
There is to be NO levity WHATSOEVER where Deep Purple is concerned.
I am Deeply serious about this. I am in such earnest I'm turning Purple in the face.
All must- and WILL- bow at the Lord's altar. John Lord's altar, that is.
Ian Gillan is the archetypal rock front man. None of the prissy poncing that plagued music in the 80s-- only a blues-damaged rasp and a supremely confident swagger here.
Roger Glover- a TALENTED metal bassist. How about that, for a change! A chap who actually constructs real basslines, and doesn't simply double the rhythm guitar.
Ian Paice- best drummer in heavy rock, hands down.
Ritchie Blackmore- if you don't know anything about him, you don't know anything about hard rock, metal, and the various subgenres of metal that formed in the 80s and 90s.
DEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP PUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUURPLE
I bought the Making Of Machine Head DVD, and you'd better run out and buy it. NOW.
I always thought Anathema should cover a Purple tune. Danny's lead style would mesh well with Blackmore's blueprint; I'm sure Les would enjoy going mad on the electric organ; and Vincent or Darren could try their hand at sounding like Sir Gillan.
DEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP PURRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRPLE!
