I shall start:

Beethoven's 5th - the best hands down. Also the heaviest. Duh duh duh DUH. :headbang:

Dire Straits - Money For Nothing. Top stuff. Duh, duh duh DUH duh duh duh duh duh duh, DUH duh duh duh DUH duh DUH duh duh. :headbang:

Then there are your obvious ones like Smoke on the Water, Paranoid, etc. Others?

I hope you're planning on making this a poll once you've got enough nominations.. :)

Nah, can't be bothered doing that. :) Someone who has never posted here before will just come along in a couple of weeks asking where their favourite song is.

my favourite riff ever is without a doubt in Metallica's Trapped Under Ice...

Right when it goes into the der DERNERNER BAAAMMM BAMMMM wa na na na wa na na na der DERNERNER BAM bam BAMMMM doo dododoo dododoo dododoo dododoo dodo

...the enveloping bridge riff, as I call it... as it is played before and after the actual bridge part.

Yeah that's a pretty good riff, that one. Hmmm best riffs.....take your pick from anything by At The Gates or The Haunted.

Enter Sandman :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:

Sadly, familiarity breeds contempt, but it was about 5 years of constant listening to it before I started getting sick of it :)

The riff from Money For Nothing is awesome.

Trapped Under Ice is awesome thrash, as is Angel Of Death.

Enter Sandman is a classic, can't go past it. Is so popular for a reason.

The riff about three quarters through in Imperium is some of the best riffing I have heard in years, it is awesome. I can't believe it is the same band that were playing nu-metal one album earlier.

Other personal favourites include Creeping Death, Painkiller, Rainbow In The Dark, Holy Wars, Disposable Heroes, Nevermore's "Beyond Within", Dungeon's "I Am Death", and a few from Maiden, Aces High, Fear Of The Dark, Mother Russia, Wasted Years, a few in Rime Of The Ancient Mariner. Iced Earth have heaps, but they are all so similar I won't bother mentioning them lol. The Coming Curse is a favourite. Dream Theater have some good shit too, like in Honor Thy Father for example. Heaps of Sabbath I won't bother mentioning. Sepultura had some awesome riffs back in the day, Refuse/Resist etc.

If I had to pick one though, it would probably be Seek And Destroy. Awesome.

Dantes Inferno has about 50 brilliant riffs, Diary has some great ones too, and the title track to Burnt Offerings :worship:

Older Iced Earth has tonnes of awesome riffs, its only really the new stuff that sounds REALLY similair, and thats because he follows the same riff/verse/chorus structure pretty much now, and doesnt put as many riffs into his songs.

Yeah, you're right.

Diary and Creator Failure have awesome riffs, and Dante's Inferno. My god. :worship:

Fuck Burnt Offerings is such an awesome album.

Stormrider is another song with awesome riffs, and Stygain, and The Funeral, and Slave To The Dark. Fuck Iced Earth are awesome. :kickass:
