Anyone ever heard Becker's rendition of "Hot for Teacher"? It's on his site under "Never Heard Recordings." That might be my favorite solo ever, so I thought I'd give it a little exposure and see what you guys think of it.

I just transcribed it tonight (except that last run - Jesus Christ o_O ), and every lick is totally kickass.

This whole post was just because Becker needs to be talked about more often. :kickass:

My fav. solo of Jason Becker is Mable's Fatal Fable from Perpetual Burn... at first I didn't know what to make of it because the phrasing sounds all weird but now I think it's sick.

Jason Becker can never be talked about too much... :D I love the opening arpeggios of Perpetual Burn, they're straight foward, but lightning quick, ad they really set the trend for the whole album... Just everything the guy played was magic...

It saddens me to think of Jason Becker. Such a tremendous guitar talent, and I loved his stuff while growing up (he's not even a year older than I am). I remember what it was like in high school where I was pretty much the only person in my circle who listened to guitar music rather than Metallica (though that was still the Master of Puppets era and they did rock). Jason Becker was a favorite.

So I get sad whenever I think about him. But then I visit his website and read all his great words and then I get more inspired and happy. What an inspiration as a human being!

Becker is indeed great, but i always found it kinda funny/weird how he wrote Serrana for his at the time girlfreind. As awesome a musical piece as it is, I can't imagine myself going up to my girlfriend and say something like "hey baby, i wrote a song for you...weedlyweedlyweedlyfidilyfidilyweeee(...you get the point)"

Yep, I heard Speed Metal Symphony and Concerto. I didn't really like it all that much but it was OK.

 Oh well, thats just too bad... :p

Good call. I've learned all of Concerto but a few impossible licks. Such a killer song.

Yeah, some of the licks are just that. Impossible... :worship:

If someone had a girlfriend who actually appreciated that, I would say that they scored big time... :D

I've heard the Perpetual Burn and Speed metal symphony albums, it's awesome musically, but he's not my favorite composer, and his tone sounds a bit sloppy on some songs, but that might just be the recording quality.

I haven't heard Becker's solo on his version on Hot For Teacer (although I do have the recording) but I also transcribed the intro arpeggios.

I was into Cacophony alot about 2 years ago but now I'm not anymore. I still love Becker/Friedman, just not as much as I used to.

yea maybe to some, but it find that having a girlfriend who doesnt care if you can play 2 notes per second or 20 kinda keeps you in touch with reality and reminds you that its not all about teh shr3dxor, if at all (will i be crucified for this now?).

Jason Becker can never be talked about too much...
On the contrary, he's talked about too much to the point of being one of the most overrated players. Fair enough he was good but there were plenty of other guitarists in the Shrapnel stable and elsewhere who were at least equal to or superior musically and technically. Definitely tonewise, his was a shocker.
