better guitarist

gotta go with Randy on this. He was definitely one of the all-time greats. I always thought Dimebag was overrated. Then again, i'm not that big of a Pantera guy, anyway.

Randy, without a doubt :D

but some (many ?) are even better than Randy was... Ritchie Blackmore, Steve Vai, Jeff Beck etc... still he was a kick-ass guitarist and he's still very missed :(

I have to go with Randy. He was a true orginal who changed Metal as we know it. While Dime was a good player with his own style. I don't belive he made the kind of impact that Randy did.

I still say you cant compare them, they are two completely different animals ... But can anybody remember the Dark days of the mid nineties? all there was was Grunge and Rap and bad Metallica records and the internet wasnt as much the force it is today ... Granted there were bands ... but if you lived in the middle of east bumfuck you expouser to any up and coming metal bands was very little, if you could find it at the crap music store thats what ya got ... anyways Pantera was the only Big Heavy Metal band at the time ... You had Megadeth but they were startin to wimp out ... Ozzys music went completely to shit and Overkill ofcourse :D but Pantera was The Big Band ... shit ... kinda forgot where I was going with this .... ummm Well I just think Darrel has had a major influence on Modern Metal of all different genres ... and I think you will see in many years that his name will be mentioned amongst the alltime greats of metal without questions ... this is all IMO ofourse :D ... I really dont think Darrel is Overrated if anything he tends to be underrated .... I never did like that Nickname though hahaha

 JD You rule man!! Remember to slap you on the shoulder as hard as I can and buy you some drinks when we meet!

Wasn't that supposed to be a kick in the nuts?..let's not go soft on JD, slap on the shoulder, duh !!! :heh:

They both had a unique style and sound. I would say Randy was a better guitarist technically, but I think Dime probably had a more unique sound. Me and my wife were talking about him last night(Dime). About how you could tell his tone and playing immediately. Randy also had this, but he came at a time when there were other guitar heros. He stood above many of them back then and his playing was great. Too bad we didn't get to hear more of it.:( Dime came at a time when the guitar hero was all but dying or dead already. He really revitalized the metal scene, at least here in the states. If you ask somebody who started playing guitar in the 80's, I'm sure they would name Rhodes as an influence. Anyone from the 90's and it would be Dimebag.

Bottom line, both great and influential guitarists. Different times and totally different styles. I can't choose between them, I think they were both awesome. The bad part is the word "WERE". It's a total shame both these guys lives were cut short because of some stupid acts by others.

Ronny my man thats also what I meant to convey ..... I am glad there are Intelligent posters here :D ..... the 90's Sucked!!!! Dime was one of few gleaming lights ... guitar wise ... and besides it was Phil Anselmo that drove me away from Pantera ... the Abbott Brothers Were Incredible :) IMO :)

Vai is better :D

I vote on that one too! ;)

Anyway even if I understand JD/Fang point of view, I still go with Randy...even if I don't have albums by neither of them
