Black Sabbath: New Album (Rick Rubin)

I'm reserving judgement till I hear the final product. I'll state up front that I in no way expect some form of what we now define metal as and given that it's 3/4 the original lineup and the one responsible for those records from 70 - 79 I always assumed this is going to be much more of a throwback record to the quasi heavy blues rock/psychedelia early doom vibe that brought them to the public's attention. If you were expecting Heaven and Hell, Mob Rules, Dehumanizer Dio era type metal or even solo Ozzy heyday material, I think you will be sadly disappointed as that's not the vibe I ever assumed they would go.

At least thats what I've always assumed they were going to go for - but who knows. I'll wait for the release to pass judgement.

Im somewhat possitive about this.. i actually think this might be the best Sabbath will have put out since the 70's.
But yeah.. can't deny that theres this baaaaaad feeling lingering somewhere in the back of my head.

either way locking up a bunch of 70 year olds in a studio doesn't sound like too much is gonna come out of this...

Because locking up a bunch of 18 year olds in a studio has given us so much great music over the last decade?

Just being a bit of a dick ;)

Check the youtube video. Rubin lays in a fucking bed/couch whatever and just tells them to do shit over a mic.

He's a "producer" nothing more, nothing less. From what I've read he's never considered himself an engineer of any sort. He's always just coached artists.

From what I've heard and how it appears to me is that he isn't even involved other than throwing out suggestions here and there.

I've read some people have had issues with his "style" of "producing" - Corey Taylor of Slipknot has commented publicly about only seeing him about four times while recording one of their albums all the while paying out a ton of money for it.

The drums sound really out of place, but the song itself doesn't sound bad. I had no doubts that the riffs would be good, it is Iommi after all.
