Blending melody lines with rhythm chords - Rock and Punk

Hey guys

I'm having trouble getting the 2nd guitar melody lines to sit with the rhythm guitars without it all becoming a mess. Heres a short example

I've tried adding some reverb, reducing the panning, even giving it a mid boost and nothing seems to work. Does anyone have any tips for making the 2 parts play well together?

Roll the low end off and compress the lead riff. Treat it sort of like you would a vocal.
