First post, long time reader.......Bloodbath rulez:kickass:

Now my question, im very curious as to what gear is used on The Fathonless Mastery. I dont give a rats ass about all the fancy studio effects, just what amp, guitar, pickups, etc. The song in particualr im talking about is treasonous, and i know alot of the chunk in those rhythm lines come from the drop x tuning, but there is definately something more. The rhythm part during the "verse" portion of the song is soooo sharp and articulate:worship:, its the tone ive wanted for myself since i started playing death metal.....

Don't know about the amps, but I'm pretty sure that all the guitars on the album are probably Mayones custom models in a baritone (B) tuning. I'm pretty sure Axe plays DR drums unless he uses different kits for Bloodbath and Opeth.

I'll see if I can't find out more....

Well, I checked the Blodbath MySpace for studio pics...but the newest they've got up are from NMF. However, there are a few recent live pics where it would appear that they are using a Mesa Boogie (either dual or triple) rectifier. As can be seen slightly here...

There also appears to be a Marshall in the mix, but I'm not familiar with their makes and models...so it's up to you take your best bet.

It can be seen here under Sodo's crotch.

Hope this helps. Their studio gear may very well differ from their live gear, but you could check out their live tone on the Wacken Carnage and see if you approve of it as much. It'll probably give you a much more accurate description of the actual amp's tone...instead of what two heads will sound like after going through all sorts of mixing and mastering.

Brain fart! I forgot just how old the Wacken Carnage show actually is....so I guess Sodomizer and his equipment wouldn't have been on that recording. But regardless, if you can find any decent quality audio or video from an 08 Bloodbath show, then that should give you a sufficient idea of the amp tone.

Of coarse there's a rule of thumb when buying musical equipment that goes strongly against "Buying it without trying it." =]

The mystery of the Bloodbath guitar tone will stay just as that...a mystery....

I think you should elaborate with your own tone to come up with something cool, thats the only way to find the sick sounds. Hopefully you will find some good guitar sounds that will break boundaries.

Good Luck guys!

Just distort your amp use a pedal and add some chorus and reverb. I think a lot of guitar sound on albums has a lot to do with studio tweaking so and when bands are at home or wherever playing guitar & writing (just like us) the sound is different so don't really worry about trying to get a specific sound or going for an album sound.

everything is really in the fingers and playing to achieve tone and sound.

I am also a gear nut though, I love to try differnt amps guitars, pedals etc. Its been my hobby for years.
