I was listening to the EP, and I have to say, I find it pretty uneventful now. I dunno, I just don't like straightforward death metal anymore. It's too friggin' one dimensional. Throw in some Egyptian, Sumerian, or Indian shit into the mix, create folky haunting atmosphere like Aeternus, or grind away over rotting skulls like Bolt Thrower. Otherwise, I'll be on my way me thinks.

Anyway, one thing is clearly evident, after Ares, Mikael Åkerfeldt probably has the best death growls in the business.

I LOVE the Breeding Death EP, but I love traditional death metal. Resurrection Through Carnage is pretty disappointing. Mikael has awesome vocals period, even if I'm finding Opeth highly bland as of late.

Is Ares the dude in Aeturnus? ARES are my initials by the way, which amplifies my ass kickedness to no end. :loco:

Ares is definitely the best growler in the biz, no doubt about that. Akerfeldt has his moments, such as "Blackwater Park" (the song), but they are too few and far between for me. I much prefer Tagtgren over Akerfeldt, so maybe the new Bloodbath will appeal to me.

Other than Furnace Funeral, Bloodbath is boring. We all know why they are so popular.

The EP is good but I never listen to it anymore. I still listen to straightforward Swedish-style DM but it has to be the old, genuine shit. Asphyx, Dismember, Entombed, Grave.. You know.
Oh yeah, Left Hand Path never tires for me. Probably in my top 5 DM album of all time. If that is 'straightforward' then I can't explain why I like it so much, so go figure.

Erik, do you have Hypocrisy - Penetralia? That's probably my favorite old style Swedish death CD. I didn't like it much until I saw them perform a few songs from it live, then realized how awesome it was.

I still need Penetralia and Obsculum Obscenum, but I refuse to get those crappy Nuclear Blast re-issue digipaks.

Asphyx is my favorite of the old guard. The Rack is just classic all the way.

Osculum Obscenum is pretty crappy other than the title track, it's like a very second rate Penetralia. I used to like it for some reason, not sure why.

I found both on eGay for pretty cheap, original pressings.

I remember not liking the original singer too much, so if see 'em for cheap, I'll get 'em, but I ain't paying $20 for 'em.

It's funny hearing about Entombed's death metal days when all I have to go by them is Uprising. Oh yeah, and the Hollow Man EP but I only listened to that once and that was nearly two years ago

how can you people not like bands like Asphyx or The Chasm or Suffocation, yet praise run-of-the-mill prog bands? Grow a sac already! haha

Bloodbath fans would nut to this. (I like the band well enough, so just a little bit of pre-cum from me.)

Featuring members of AtG, MDB, Paradise Lost, Justin Bieber's entourage.

Edit - This shit's good for one listen. (As is Bloodbath) :loco:

This album is too dry for me. I challenge anyone to listen to the whole thing in one sitting. Truly a one note band. Bloodbath's last album (The Fathomless Mastery) was fucking excellent and worth tons of listens. The two bands aren't remotely similar.

I'll have to check out the last BloodBath. I'll admit I didn't finish the Vallenfyre album, got 30 minutes in and then became sick of it. Ten minutes into it, it was worth posting about though.

Yeah man you're gonna love that Bloodbath. It gets better and better the more you listen, which is odd for death metal.
