The Bon Jovi video rarities YouTube channel, hAnD90, has shared remastered pro-shot video, Live At Yokohama Arena, shot on January 3, 1991.
hAnD90: “A concert that was hyped to the max in 2020 when it appeared, but also was the most compressed and shittiest transfer of a tape I’ve ever seen. There’s no two ways about that. This came up as a file on the web – 2 hours compressed to less than 500MB with audio knocked down to 16bit/128kbit/s. A lot of fun to work with, I can tell you that. Furthermore, about 70% of the show were overlayed with crackling noise that was immensely annoying.
Fortunately, I still had a close-to lossless audio from when it leaked back in 2013. That was cut to give off a different length, but I painstakingly re-aligned the files and filled some gaps between the songs with its own audio. The crackled noise was almost impossible to get rid off, but with newer technology and some more experience, I was able to knock it back while preserving a bit of clarity in the mix. This time around, I went for rather having a bit of that noise in there but keeping more audio information instead.
The video is compressed as well and restabilized and cleaned. I resized it, stretched it a little to regain a more realistic aspect ratio and readjusted the colours slightly. Let’s take it for what it is – an impressive performance by the band.
Which brings us to the next point – the performance was strong, but only because they were keen to outshine each other. Six days later, Jon apparently said to the band, ‘We can’t do this anymore’ as they disbanded after the second show in Osaka and went their separate ways for another few months, with the unknown future hanging over their heads. The power and intensity are there throughout, as are the tensions if you know where to look for them.”
