the traditional instrument in the picture has an odd fretting...

The traditional instrument in the picture is called a "Saz" and it's scaling is an arabic scaling, that means it has some quarter of a tone tentions.

And for all of you hungry fans, I am sitting here listening to the final sketches of "Mabool", and I must say that the album is on it's way, it'll be out sooner than you think!

Yeah, that instrument is quite similar to a persian instrument. Especially the neck.
