I need a floor fx unit , what would be better, Boss gt10 or pod hd500? I want it mainly for fx and not modeling, but it would be nice play around with the pod modeling.

I can't comment on the Boss unit, as I've never tried it, but I have used POD long enough to form an opinion on it, and that opinion, as far as the amp and cab sims go, is not favorable.

Now while I have heard people get very good to outstanding tones using the POD sims, I have never been able to get any usable tones out of it myself. This doesn't mean that you may not be able to yourself, it's just been my experience that there are better sims out there and they're usually free, the Lecto being a prime example. If, on the other hand, your main reason for getting either of the two units you mentioned are just for effects, then the POD does have some nice ones. I especially like the POD's phasers and delays.

I'm leaning toward the boss, it also has amp switching. But I keep going back and forth, because I wouldn't mind having some good amp models for fender and vox clean type stuff. Going to pick it up one of them up tomorrow.

Just sold my axefx after owning it for 2 years. I got a new I7 8 gig computer and can play amp sims in real time, imo amp sims are getting to the point where they sound just as good if not better than the axefx, TSE X50 is awesome! I saw the writing on the wall and want to get rid of it before it was obsolete and I coudn't get any thing for it. Put it on craigslist and sold it in 15 minutes, had 10 people wanting to buy it in about 20 minutes. This after everyone at my local Guitar center told me they never heard of it and would not be able to sell it... EVERYONE in the guitar department never heard of it lol!! One of them even said that "guitar players aren't that smart, there's no market for stuff like this"... I'm sticking to micing up real amps, thats why I want mainly a fx unit!

What is a 17 8 gig computer?

yeah man i own a gt10, if your giging it, it wont let you down as its built like a tank, the amp modelling in it isnt the best in the world even though you have alot of choices like rectos etc

as much as it isnt the most professional or high quality tube tones etc, i have gotten some nice tones from it over the years, but it is definatly a tweaker, ive put hours into to the thing and gotten everything from very fairly decent usable tones, to complete shit  but as an effects unit its great, all kinds of octaves, guitar synth patches, sitar simulators, that "violin" effect, the auto riff feature can be fun if you use it right, but id never use it in any serious material,

then all the usual wahs, auto wahs, delays, verbs, etc etc

Just pulled out our GT-8 yesterday as I setting up some intonation, plugged some phones into it. That COSM amp modelling sounded like s**t. it was horrible. I am sure the effects are all good.

I designed an analog effects unit years ago you'd think i'd be into it but we are finding that anything between the (all tube) pre-amp/power head and the guitar seems to detract from the tone. We are using an 18V Dano chorus set fairly mild to feed the #2 stage left amp.

Please tell me you're just being an idiot.

Well the AXE-FX II is the greatest but it's like 8-9 times the price of the GT-10.

I play in a band with the GT-10 and the other guitarist has an AXE FX 2 and the blending is great.

I bypasse the pre-amp on my Fender and only use the power section tho.
