BP capped the oil leak

Sadly, its not "goodbye BP".. in the end, they have the oil, they have the power.

Naw, BP will break up into smaller subsidiaries to handle debt that way.

But, again, 184 million gallons is nothing.

Fuck the oil
Fuck the money
Fuck the power
We are just brainwashed by the propanganda on the television.

I'll stop right there because that makes me freaking mad to think about all this, and to hear people say "it's nothing"...damn it...
Ok, I'll shut up, now

EDIT: Nice pic, Jeff, I never saw that one, thanks for showing it

It's on another BP thread. And yeah, that picture REALLY puts things into perspective. God damned nuts.

Its nothing if you combine all of those and use that as the total. But going by that chart and each individual spill. This is the biggest oil spoil.

Also, The cap is only a temporary solution.

I can see a few ones that are much bigger than the current BP one. The one highlighted in red is the BP one.

Japan says hello.

Hello right back to japan.

I was going by the numbers that each dot is representing. And when that chart was originally posted it wasnt today. After the cap. And a more realistic total of oil spilled. If you look at the chart the highest amount is around 1.2 million where as, as of today, BP's spill is at 184 million.

I have no doubt this is the truth but why? Is there a reason they are not reporting it that way?

Well a lot of it has to do with the amount of time it's going to take complete the relief well. They're currently about 5 feet away from the blown out well, but will be drilling about another 150 ft down to the point that they want to intersect. Unfortunately, at this point, precision is what counts (imagine trying to hit a target the size of a stop sign four miles away with a straw) so this last stretch will go a bit slower. A lot of the reasons they're not being to vocal about this (you can find it in the news occasionally, but they don't make a big deal of it) is that if they run into any problems, it could delay the operation - which would lead to an additional un-needed PR nightmare. Setting a mid/late August date for the completion is a pretty conservative estimate, but if they say late-July and its not done on August 1st people will want to know why.

So now that this thing is capped (at least temporarily) who is going to have the balls to take a look at our absurd energy consumption and realize that this spill, as massive as it was, represents two (yes 2) days worth of oil consumption for the United States? And I'm tired of hearing the bullshit about wind and solar, because honestly, that's not going to cut it right now or any time soon. So in the light of this disaster, how many Americans (or people of any nation for that matter) are going to cut back on their consumption of petroleum based products? I work for a very large oil services company, and right now we're being absolutely slaughtered by this moratorium, but luckily, I know the answer to the previous question - and in due time I'll be fruitfully back to work making money off the people who constantly bitch about oil companies.

It's hard to cut from the near zero that I currently use... I don't drive a car, use only public transportation or carpooling, try to use as little amount of plastic bags as possible and my house is heated on nuclear power. But there is one thing I won't cut; my use of deodorant sticks and pro-audio equipment

No, you're reading the key wrong. The key is in tons, not gallons. The Lakeview Gusher was 1.2 million tons/278 million gallons, the Gulf of Mexico spill is currently at ~513,000 tons/184 million gallons.
