Hearing them described as technical jazzy metal makes me think of Cynic, which makes me not care at all about this news.

Well, I don't have "Piece of Time" but I do have "Unquestionable Presence" and that is TOTALLY JAZZ TECHNICAL DEATH METAL.

Sure, Cynic might be a little different in that it has those fucking robot vocals, but this is all in the same ballpark. This is also where Pestilence jumped the shark with "Spheres".

Oh and the sticker on the front of my Aetheist says:

For fans of CYNIC, late-period DEATH, THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN, SPIRAL ARCHITECT, and NECROPHAGIST. If you call yourself a fan of prog technical metal and you've not experienced the music of AETHEIST, then you're truly missing out.

Somehow I've ended up with both Cynic's "Focus" and this album in my CD collection. They're sitting right next to the Watchtower CD that I've yet to dare open....

I like the occasional jazzy tech wankery disc (I like Spheres, JK), but PoT ain't it. It's a great album--definitely worth the time to check out. I like UP just as well, but Elements doesn't do a lot for me. It has some moments.
