Actually Mogami is considered "good" quality cable as opposed to "crap" cable which most people end up using. When they switch to a Mogami they hear a difference. Van De Hul is considered "the stuff that the military wishes it could afford because boy-oh-boy-oh-boy is it nice!" There is an audible difference between a Mogami and a Van De Hul but for many players the difference is too small to justify. One of the things that comes into play is that most of the super high end cable use solid conductors which are very fragile. Thus I don't use them. I'm very happy with my Canare GS-6 cable which I prefer over the George L and Mogami. Monster Cable is actually good cable with crap ends and terrible construction but it doesn't sound as good as the Canare and is more expensive.

I added another factor to the results, price per 100ft length rounded up to the nearest dollar (price / length * 100), which can give you price per ratio more easily. Only instrument cables. If there is optional plugs they are excluded from the price or the plugs have been already added/not mentioned they are included in the price. If there is an alternative price, it has been also mentioned.

edit: I think its these two sentences why people here like Mogami: "Relaxed and fairly flat, the Mogami tames heavy distortion and provides decent definition in the midrange." and "There are no winners or losers in this comparison. Although there are several standouts in terms of pure performance characteristics, the overall scores do not necessarily serve as a ranking. Every cable has a place and needs to be matched to the player’s style, situational requirements, equipment and specific needs—individual high and low points must be considered."

^ same reason why many country guitarists don't use Jackson guitars or why many metalheads don't use the jazzguitars from Gretsch

yeah, the Cardas cable ranks really high, but if you look at the frequency response; it has a mid dip in it; so it has also a lot to do with personal taste!

Is there anybody who tried Laboga's way of sound? They are one way cables and i heard that the r fuckin good

that is a great write-up that has been around for a while.

I think in certain environments you can tell differences with cables. But this also just guitar cables. I think a lot of that won't necessarily apply the same way to mic cables.

But also this wasn't a blind test. So you have to account some for the placebo effect.

I personally have been the happiest with Planet Waves and George L's. I've actually had level problems with some higher end cables in the sense that they carry signals too hot.

i use mogami cause they are built like tanks!! all other cables crap out with any amount of abuse...my mogami are still going for the past 5-6 years since i first got them (3 cables). don't plan on looking for any other brand

By Planet Waves, is that refering to the Live Wires' that Guitar Center sells? I bought an 18.5' for about $25 and compared to the cheap POS I was using I did notice a difference. Still seems like descent price for a cable though.

Planet Waves is Planet Waves.

Live Wires is a GC house brand, IIRC. As far as what it is made of, could be a multitude of manufacturers who make it for rebranding with the Live Wires name.

I'm sure this is not a surprise to alot of you...but check out this article on how Monster cable's are marked up.

Well thats nothing if compared to bars (note: Finnish prices). If you buy a half litre bottle of booze from the liquor store, it costs ~10€. When you go to a bar, you get a 4cl shot for 4-5€ and as you can get 12 shots from a single bottle, so the price of full bottle would be 48-60€
