Saw this earlier in the week over on the Reason forums (there is much speculation). It does seem that they are no more though, someone posted some KVR screencaps that seemed to confirm it.

Yeah, that's really lame as they were really good.
I use Alchemy a lot for ambiant / pad / soundscape stuff, can't believe all of these libraries are lost.
I'm also a bit afraid for future compatibilty issues in a few years.

Why couldn't they just have sold the company or the rights to the plugins to Waves or Steinberg or something? It seems crazy to just shut down when so many people still use their stuff.
Some rumors said (or hope) they will be bought by a bigger company like Apple, NI or something like that.
Don't know what to think about it, as they didn't communicate more about the reasons they're shutting down their business.

I am guessing they are gonna get sold because even if they had losses, there is probably a company interested in their "fanbase". Just maintaining support and still selling previous versions would work for a short time.
I personnally don't like alchemy because of the GUI and I just didn't like it as much as other banks of sounds but it is definitely a good synth.

But the thing was so brutal, they didn't communicate at all about this (I'd loved to buy a few soundbanks before they stop).
About the GUI : sad thing is that they annouced Alchemy 2.0, but it won't happen now.
About the sounds : did you try the factory sounds only (which are very... basics and nothing special), or some additional libraries ? (some were very nice and unique)
I'm searching for the Iceland library promo video, but it seems they let only the "tutorial" videos on their youtube channel.

I continue to be a proud owner of nearly half of their catalogue, but there's a few products that it looks like I won't be able to get now. Hopefully they'll be able to shed some light on the situation, and perhaps at least arrange a close-out sale if they're unable to continue. This somehow feels like an initial extreme reaction to something really bad happening within the company, maybe we'll hear more about it soon.

Damn, that blows. I'm a huge Camel Audio fan and have a ton of their sounds for Absynth, Massive, and Alchemy. :[
Alchemy is one of the best, if not THE very best, software (or even hardware, really) synths available... :/

Don't know if it's good news... I guess that's the iOs apps and all that jazz that they're after, not sure about the core Alchemy engine and the "desktop" side of things.

keep in mind it's not 100% sure it's Apple, but it's how things are looking like right now. We know someone purchased them, and with 8 figures, and that someone wants CA to keep quiet about it. Apple is known to work like that whenever they buy a company. They're probably looking to integrate Alchemy into Logic Pro X, which is bad news to most of CA's user base.
I can see why they'd sell though. The ass-fuckery with the new european laws, ever-intensifying pace of competition with everyone's eyes on virtual analog in the business, and still got the piracy problem on top of all that. I can imagine it's become pretty hard to be a music software developer these days.

I can understand them honestly, I bought recently Native Instrument's Komplete, and especially Arturia's Collection, and honestly, you're pretty much set with those, and it all sounds amazing while being pretty well packaged and stable. I'm actually going to buy an Arturia controller because the integration with the software is amazing. NI have released some pretty neat controller with leds everywhere to help you play and clever things like that. I prefer the Arturia traditional approach (as close as possible to the real synth workflow while being able to switch between any well known synth) but I can imagine the competition must be difficult with this kind of companies. If it is true Apple offered them a good deal, then it's all props to them.
I usually like Apple for their philosophy (as in you can just use their stuff and have little going in your way, which helps productivity so, so much) but as I really don't like Logic nor Garageband, I am not too sure this will end up well for actual professionals who aren't using Logic. I just tried using garageband even today and found it so so awkward to use, it's certainly easier for beginners or simple songwriters but it just annoyed me. If Alchemy is integrated in Logic Pro in the future, then it's nothing short of amazing, like you don't really need anything else out of the box.

It seems that way... this is not the way to teach people to buy things instead of pirating them.
Some of the products weren't even for Alchemy at all.
Kinda sucks after having spent several hundred dollars on their products over the past few years... oh well, I guess. Time to download copies of all the samples and installers and back them up on the cloud.

I'm guessing you've never used Alchemy ($200 or $250 itself, can't remember) or any of their sound libraries for Alchemy, Massive, or Absynth (about $50 each, and there were many... probably around 30+). They are top class.
I don't give two shits about Camel Space, Camel Phat, etc.... Never bought any of those.
