i m buying a new computer soon but i need a little push to choose!

i ve been using Pc for too long and i ve always liked macs!

so A pc with quad core at 2 Ghz with 2 Gb Ram DDR3 at 1333 mhz plus 22 " wide monitor

or an Imac 20" Intel Core 2 Duo @ 2.4GHz 2 Gb Ram DDR2 at 667 mhz
with smaller Hard drive

the Mac is less powerful and a bit more expensive :loco: but its still in my wish list
any suggestions pls!!!???

Link to the PC deal please? I can show you how to get the Mac with the same or better specs to be cheaper.

Here's a few of tips for starters:

  • Don't buy your RAM or your secondary drives from Apple
  • Don't buy your monitor from Apple. I recommend Dell monitors - much better value for the money!
  • The iMac is not a fair comparison price-wise as it has a built-in monitor, whereas most PCs don't, or they include a crap freebie monitor that comes nowhere near the iMac's display
  • Get a Mac Pro!

Hmm, that link to the PC isn't going to work because of the way the programming on that website is set up. Here's some prices in US Dollars (I have no idea how the prices in Greece will compare):

  • Mac Pro with Quad Core @ 2GHz, 1 gig ram, 250 gig hard drive - $2,200.00
  • Dell 22" wide screen monitor - $269.00
  • 1 gig expansion ram as priced on MacMall.com - $100.00

Total: $2569.00 USD

How much was the PC?

Now buying a mac in the US and in Europe (I'm so stupid, I don't even know if greece is in the ECC) is very different... $2,200 is about 1,550 €... But the same mac will be sold 2,200 € here, in europe... (which is about $3,200).

With "PC" parts that difference is almost non-existing.

Well relatively speaking dude, it's good to have a balance, and that, along with greater software compatibility and my lack of any problems on PC's since I've been using them for SO long (since Windows 3.1 baby) is why I can't ever see myself jumping ship to a Mac

I had the same problem this summer, though I was looking for a budget computer for a decent DAW. First I wanted to get a Powermac G4 dual 1,25GHz, but Macs are ridiculously expensive here. The cheapest ones (MDD models, no upgraded older models) were around 700-800e used. In the end I just ordered the parts for a new PC, ~470e (monitor etc. not included) for a perfectly fine DAW for my use.

If Macs are going to cost you way more than they should simply because of where you live, send the message to Apple to get it together over there by NOT buying a Mac and getting a PC. Write them telling them as much, and that cost was the main reason you went with a PC. Apple will have to address a bad market share eventually, especially from people who are aware enough to WANT to be paying customers.

At least in the USA, Macs are competetively priced with PCs. Apple needs to make it that way everywhere else they sell Macs!

The Mac euro costs is related to the Apple politics...
In USA the iPhone 8Gb costs 399$ (290€)....In Europe 390€....a difference of 100€.
So...Apple...fuck you.

Well to be fair, Apple is not the only company to do that... The 1$ = 1€ conversion is actually not that bad if you compare it with Mesa Boogie prices in the US and in Europe (at least in France, where it can reach the "evil" 1$ = 2€ conversion).

Still, when you're offered the alternative (ie build your own pc) it's a hard decision.

I'm actually considering buying a macpro pretty soon, but I'm gonna have to take a credit to pay it :erk:

Nah, as long as the thread stays somewhat polite and even remotely objective, a bit of Mac vs. PC debate is completely ok IMHO. After all, the dude just wants to know which would be more reasonable for him, personal preference put aside.

I was by no means bashing Macs (actually I even stated I was going for a Mac at first, I find OS X intuitive as fuck and they're just plain cute :)) but couldn't afford one 'cause of Apple's prices in Europe.

Dont build your own pc unless you ABSOLUTLY know what is best.

One sub standard part can conflict the hell out of it, i can know i failed to produce a new demo this year because of wierd conflict problems.

speaking about conflicts...has anybody heard anything about the new P35 chipset on motherboards??
is it compatible with protools? most of motherboards with the tested 975chipset are not in the market any more!

any ideas?

Mac X PC = Religion X Science

Anyway, if you get an Intel Mac or PC you can install Windows XP and MacOSX to see what you like most, but you gotta check if your hardware can deal with it before. I´m using Vista here and it´s the best OS that I ever used (Vista and OpenBSD).
