Canadian power metal band Lycanthro have its second studio album, Remnants Of Rapture via U.S.-based label Psychomanteum Records. Featuring a sound that fuses the weight of traditional metal with soaring melodies and lyrics inspired by fantasy, horror, and sci-fi, the new album explores themes such as resilience, loss, and identity.
“This album is about finding light even in the darkest moments,” says vocalist and guitarist James Delbridge.

The album marks a bold step forward in the band’s evolving sound, now incorporating more progressive and cinematic elements. Special guests add even more power to the record: Laura Guldemond (Burning Witches) delivers an epic duet on “The Great Masquerade,” while Stu Block (Into Eternity, ex-Iced Earth) brings his vocal versatility to the intense “Night Of The Parasite.” “We made it a point to invite artists we admire who could bring new layers to our music,” James explains.
Produced by Damien Rainaud, with sound engineering by Cody Anstey, Jack Kosto, and Delbridge himself, the album was partially recorded at Clarity Audio Studio in Canada. The cover artwork, designed by Junki Sukuraba, reinforces the album’s epic and conceptual nature. All ten tracks were composed by James and offer a cohesive narrative, drawing influences from Blind Guardian and Angra to Amorphis and Dream Theater. “Remnants Of Rapture is the soundtrack to our personal struggles, transformed into art,” says the vocalist.
Each track tells a different story and draws inspiration from various sources, including pop culture like anime and video games. The opening track, “Iris,” is based on the film Gamera 3 and blends ’90s-style power metal with melodic death metal. “Far Beyond the Walls,” inspired by Attack on Titan, is a true anthem of perseverance. The title track, “Remnants of Rapture,” dives into existential themes rooted in the anime RahXephon, while the emotional “Cry Silver” addresses grief and longing with melancholic tones.
More acoustic and introspective moments are also present, such as “Prison Eyes,” which features flute and a medieval atmosphere to explore envy and the impact of social media—while still conveying a message of empathy. “In Demon Light” pays homage to classic power metal with lyrics inspired by Inuyasha, and “Solaris” closes the album with epic intensity, combining violins, operatic vocals, and a story about spiritual reunions inspired by the game Xenogears. “Each song has its own soul,” James affirms.
In addition to the core lineup—James Delbridge (vocals/guitar), Andrew Stout (guitar), Everett Mayhew (bass), and Kyle Summers (drums)—the album features guest musicians like Arttu Vauhkonen (keyboards), Julie Belanger-Roy (violin), Marialena Trikoglou (lyric vocals), and Ember Belladonna (flute). The backing vocal team includes David Akesson, Stefani Keough, Tom De Wit, and Ariane Martel. “We’ve never done anything this ambitious,” James states. “This album is our ultimate love letter to metal.”
Though based in Canada, Lycanthro is a Canadian-American band, as guitarist Andrew Stout hails from the United States. The group has played festivals such as Power Metal Quest Fest (UK) and Legions of Metal (Chicago), sharing the stage with acts like Hammerfall, Rhapsody of Fire, Twilight Force, and Wind Rose. James Delbridge is also the vocalist for cult band Witchkiller, known for their classic Day of the Saxons (1984), still celebrated in traditional metal’s underground scene.
To celebrate the release, the band has shared a live video for “Far Beyond the Walls,” recorded during their performance at Power Metal Quest Fest in Birmingham—the city often hailed as the birthplace of heavy metal. With its meticulous production and inspired lyricism, Remnants of Rapture is poised to win over power metal fans around the globe. “This album is for those who carry scars but keep moving forward with their heads held high. The howl lives on,” James concludes.
