Candlemass - 20 Year Anniversary Party - DVD
Peaceville - DVDVILE10 - 22 October 2007
by Brandon Peters
Before the release of the newest Candlemass album, King of the Grey Islands, the band put together an epic set, containing 17 songs and lasting two hours long. The DVD contains Rob Lowe, Johan Lanquist, and Tomas Vikstrom from Candlemass, and guests of JB from Grand Magus, Mats Leven from Therion, Mikael Akerfeldt from Opeth, and Tony Martin from Black Sabbath.
The band plays tracks from all of their albums, but the most focus is put on Epicus Doomicus Metalicus because of the return of Johan, who was the original vocalist for that album. The sound on the DVD is pretty good, and has the most focus on the vocals. You can easily hear everything though. The video is well done, it has many crowd shots, and gives an all around good representation for the show.
Tomas and Rob were definitely the best singers through the night. Johan does a pretty good job through the Epicus tracks, but he doesnt quite hit everything like on the album; however, the best part of the whole show is where all the Candlemass singers perform 'Solitude'.
This is a well put together DVD and the interviews are interesting as well. Being a huge Candlemass fan, this would have been one epic show!
