This powerful tribute to one of rock’s most iconic bands was performed live on stage with one of the most respected Rush tribute acts in the world.
Says Cathy Rankin: “As a long-time fan of Rush, it was an honor to lend my voice to this legendary track and celebrate 30 years of Freewill’s incredible journey and our mutual love of Rush. I previously uploaded this video, but am updating it with this higher quality version!
“The last time Rush performed this song in full was in 1978 – Geddy Lee stated in interviews that the song scared him due to the difficulty of the high vocal range. This performance gives audiences a fun flashback of a classic fan favorite song, paying homage to Geddy Lee, Neil Peart, and Alex Lifeson, and the unforgettable energy of one of the albums that put them on the map.”
Last year, Cathy Rankin released her debut single, “Now You’ve Gone”, featuring renowned musicians David Ellefson (Kings Of Thrash, ex-Megadeth) and Ken Mary (Flotsam And Jetsam, Fifth Angel, ex-Alice Cooper). The emotional track, inspired by deeply personal experiences, reflects on themes of love, grief, and ultimately hope, is accompanied by an official music video.
Rankin wrote the song as a tribute to legendary drummer Neil Peart, and her nephew, Christian. “Both had a permanent impact on my life,” she shares. “Neil’s music and lyrics were a huge influence for me, and my nephew was a light in this world for the 18 years he was here. The song is my way of expressing the void I felt when they were gone, and connecting with others who have experienced similar feelings of loss.”
