Cerebral Effusion Violence in Motion
Unmatched Brutality Records 2003
By Adam McAuley
Coming out of a None So Vile-esque sampled intro, Cerebral Effusion proceed into their grindy death platter. A creepy atmosphere is created by the outfit, capped off by gremlin-sounding vocals. This is consistent through the works entirety, and enhanced by each song becoming more cacophonous as it progresses. Theres very little variation in the scathing arpeggiated riffing that each song possesses, leading to boredom and eventually the desire to remove the album from your CD player.
To describe their sound, simply imagine endless blasting, gurgly and distracting vocals, a far too transparent production job, and nothing particularly notable in the musical performances. The occasional samples dont help break up the monotony either its just a rather dull affair all the way through. Positive aspects of the album? Well, the band certainly live up to their name, as the music is appropriately aggressive and raw. Violence in Motion is a visceral experience, but far from an interesting one.
Chock this up as another generic band that combines death and grind. Unless you absolutely adore this type of thing, I cant really think a reason to recommend Cerebral Effusion. While not bad by any means, they lack any sort of individuality to give them an interesting sound, and thus cant receive a strong recommendation from me.
