so if i got a guitar with a shitty floyd rose, how difficult would it be to replace it with a real one? i have some experience with guitar repair, i've just never done this; so i'm seeing if anyone else has so i can see if it's doable or not :)

well you'd have to take the strings off then replace the bridge. that part's easy. the hard part comes if your bridge cavity is a different shape than the new one. then you have to do some surgery. also, you may or may not want to change the strings and pins as well. all in all, its not a hard job, but it requires a lot of patience and a definite tuning/setup afterwards

yeah... what i was planning on was trying to find a guitar similar to what i want (neck thru at least) for cheap, then just replacing the shitty floyd copy and pickups. since my band plays in drop c i'd need to go get it set up again anyway, so i figured i may as well do it all at once

but yeah, with the floating floyd bridges, there's nothing actually holding them in other than the springs right? because i just kind of assumed i'd be able to block the trem, undo the springs from the back cavity, and pop it out... i know if i didn't block the trem i'd probably rip the parts of the guitar it hits apart, but as long as i do block it.... well anyway...
