changing tempo

I'm looking for more advice on tempo, especially in hard rock and metal. Anyone care to share experience or links?

I've always wondered if this was one of those really subtle differences between my own productions and true "commercial" productions - I kind of feel I'm committing some sort of wrong-doing by keeping a song the whole tempo the whole way through.

Here's a discussion from a few months ago...

I've had some small issues with clicks and pops when changing tempo and slaving VST delay values to to tempo. (mentioned in the linked thread) Using a fixed manual value seemed to resolve it, however.
