Just downloaded a three track sampler of this album from the Metal Blade's press page. Haven't heard but a couple minutes off a track which was on played on The Stern Show earlier this week. For those that haven't heard of them here's a little info on the upcoming album....

Charred Walls Of The Damned "Charred Walls Of The Damned"
Release Date: 02/02/2010

Metal Blade Records is proud to bring to the world Richard Christy’s new project, Charred Walls of the Damned! This all-star metal outfit features some of the most talented musicians in the world of metal. Their collective experience is colossal and their musical pedigrees speak louder than any verbal or written praise.

Founder, Richard Christy comments: "To be a part of the Metal Blade family is such an honor. I've been a fan of the label since I was an eleven year old kid ordering Metal Massacre cassettes through the mail. It's so amazing to be label mates with some of my all time favorite metal bands like Amon Amarth, King Diamond, Mercyful Fate, Cannibal Corpse, and Lizzy Borden, just to name a few! Brian Slagel is a true metal legend and I'm honored to be a part of his label. I'm beyond excited to get back into the studio and make some crushing heavy metal with my friends!"

Metal Blade Records founder Brian Slagel adds: “We are very happy to welcome Richard Christy and his band, Charred Walls of the Damned, to the Metal Blade Family. In addition to his duties on the Howard Stern show, Richard has had a great career in metal. He has put together a really great new band with some of metal’s most talented artists and we can't wait to have everyone hear it.”

In the Spring of 2009, Richard Christy, former drummer for Death and Iced Earth, finished writing the music for a new project. The music for album began to take shape roughly two years ago, after several years of Richard being on a musical hiatus. And though Richard is mostly known for his drumming prowess, he has also actively played guitar since 1992. The project would come to be named Charred Walls of the Damned.

Upon completing the music for the album in 2009, Richard began to put together his dream line up of musicians whom he considers to be some of the best in the world. Included in this musical collective is famed producer, Jason Suecof. Suecof has produced and/or mixed some of the most prominent albums from metal’s leading bands, including: Trivium, All That Remains, Bury Your Dead, August Burns Red, The Black Dahlia Murder, Daath, Chimaira, DevilDriver, God Forbid and many, many more. Richard and Jason have been friends for over ten years and wrote music together for years while Richard resided in Florida. On vocals for Charred Walls of the Damned will be none other than legendary metal vocalist, Tim "Ripper" Owens. Richard and Tim played together in Iced Earth from 2003 to 2004. Tim "Ripper" Owens’ first and most well known gig was with heavy metal legends, Judas Priest. He currently performs with Beyond Fear and Yngwie Malmsteen's Rising Force. On bass guitar will be one of metal’s most heralded bassists, Steve Digiorgio. Richard and Steve played together in the bands Control Denied and Iced Earth. DiGiorgio has also performed with Death, Autopsy, Control Denied, Testament, Vintersorg, Iced Earth, and is a founding member of technical thrash pioneers, Sadus. He is widely renowned for his technical skills, and is one of the very few bass players in the metal scene that plays fretless bass.

The full length album will be released on February 2nd, 2010. The self titled debut was produced by Jason Suecof at his Orlando, FL based studio, Audiohammer Studios.

Funny the drumming sound like death metal, but Tim vocals are clean and good as ever. I can't pinpoint clearly what sub-genre is this but sounds promising indeed. By rule projects with Owens singing do well, his own band on the other hand does not.

I'm bumping this one because the album comes out in February (like 10 days from now).

And the band has a video, hope the link works:

It is a little weird to hear a drum intro like that on Ghost Town & then a Ripper scream instead of a death growl !

And that's exactly what hook me up to the band. I was also expecting (in dreadful fear) a growl, but Tim pull out the vocals very good. I guess this is my definition of melodic death metal

@ Sixx: hope you get the interview, keep us posted about it.

Already into You Tube? I had put the link to AOL in a post above.

Anyway, downloading the album as we speak :D (anyone interested PM for details on the site), but I am already decided to purchase it.

just let me know how it sounds

I must beware people that the song (which is the opener) may be deceiving. Yes the initialk drumming is very death-like but as you have listened the song is not really in that sub-genre. The rest of the album is mostly standard metal (sometimes again a death-like drumming appears like in 'Fear In The Sky'), well played and executed with strong vocals from Owens.

At times reminds me of a better Iced Earth at the time of Owens tenure (not surprise since Christy, DiGiorgio and Owens were in IE almost at the same time, wonder how "Horror Show" would have sound with Tim at the microphone...).

I like the album overall, it's not groundbreaking or essential, but if you like Tim vocals, strong metal, old school roots this may be a nice addition for 2010.

Bumping this one as I got my copy yesterday.

I really like it, it's different and at the same time even if it's not groundbreaking or amazing, I really enjoy it.

Even if short (35 mins), I think the album works because it delivers alright without overkilling it. Not that I'm saturated, I could have done okay with more songs I believe, but sometimes less is more.

Hope they have more in storage for the future, I'll follow.
