I like their albums with Leather on vox quite a bit. She was indeed an excellent powerful singer, with more balls than lots of her male collegues. She was referred as the "female Dio" back in the day. I used to joke with my friends in the 80s saying that the Chastain singer sounded like a man, while the CJSS singer (Chastain's other band which had a male singer, but mostly high-pitched) sounded like a girl...Mysteriously, the dude grew balls over time cause on the last CJSS disc, released in 2000 or so, he was very much singing like a man...

My fave Chastain album remains the 1st one, 1985's Mystery of Illusion, which is an 80s heavy metal classic for me. But the others are very good too.

I hadn't listened to them for quite a while, but last year I started listening again to their first four albums. I also bought the CD containing "The 7th Of Never" and "Voice Of The Cult", both of which I've already had on vinyl since their original release in the eighties. I'd say that "The 7th Of Never" is my favourite album, though the first two releases have been getting more spins from me last year. I also like "For Those Who Dare", but haven't revisited it yet.

I also have got "Sick Society" and "In Dementia", but they never really appealed to me, probably because they lack the melodies and solos I appreciated on the first five albums.

I still remember that the first Chastain song I heard was "I Fear No Evil", which was played on a metal programme on the radio - it must have been either "The Monday Rock Show" on BFBS or the German metal programme "Scream".

np: Chastain - "Endlessly"

I got four of them: "Ruler of the wasteland", "The 7th of never", "The voice of the cult" and "for those who dare". I like all more or less in a similar way: 7,5/10.

Leather Leone was an excellent singer. One of my favourites ever besides Nicole Lee from Znowhite (the female Mike Howe, the same range than former Metal Church singer). However, I don´t consider her like Dio. She had a more agressive voice.

"We must carry on", "The wicked are restless", "Chains of love", Child of evermore"... highly recommended band.
