CHECK HER OUT

the one that sprang to mind for me was the 80s abomination... the Great Kat:

It's like Angela Gossow trying to sing over Dave's 'So far So good...So What!' Z-Side riffs, with Manowars lyrical 'prowess'.

Times infinity billion times worse than my description.

You should check this one. Pretty hot and plays unbelievably well (way better than the australian lad).

btw: for the "pics or it didn't happen" guys:

Haha, yeah, I saw Carina Alfie at NAMM last year actually, she was at a tiny booth for an Argentinian string company, playing a cheap guitar through a Spider III half-stack with an ipod plugged into the CD input (playing backing tracks), and still tearing it up. I bought her CD, which is good, though she's pretty damn sloppy on it; it was recorded at Steve Vai's studio (she idolizes him it would seem), so I guess they didn't have the budget for a lot of takes. Pretty cool though!

Objectively, and honestly - compared to guys, girls are generally shit at playing metal guitar. That's not sexist, they just are. What's the point in a goddamn penis extension if you don't own a fucking penis.

well I agree with the rest of your post (mostly) but I disagree here.

It is sexist because you simply imply that girls are generally worse in guitar playing. "they just are" is not really an argument. they are not worse because they are girls but because they tend to put less effort into learning. so yes, the result would still be valid, women playing worse than men but it is not really fair to say that as a whole, since most people into metal are male and play in a band anyways.

and obviously men will have some advantages in terms of stamina and such (given the circumstances that both would learn the same stuff within the same timeframe) but I'm sure there's also a counterpart on the female side.

having said that and judging by the amount of covers she's gone through pretty ok I'd say for occasional guitar shredding in 2 years that's not bad. not bad at all.

I love the way its almost "expected" that girls can't play guitar for toffee because the second a girl uploads a video of themselves playing, no matter how bad they are guys will always give the comments like "Omg your so hot!!" "Ohh that was awesome, will you be in my band?". Its like fuck sake why can't they be tret the same as the guys? If they knock out some Jason Becker then those comments are fairly due but if they aren't great and you must comment, speak the damn truth!!

Or is this just me? Is this a big deal?

EDIT: Didn't see Dan's post at the time, but its similar.

The chick in Warface is pretty good although it maybe hard to tell from this clip.

I'll rephrase it slightly, to avoid any doubt:
For every *one* semi-decent female metal guitarist, there are literally (and I mean that in the very literal sense) thousands of males that can play to a far, far higher standard.
As far as I'm aware there has never been a single female guitarist that has been able to riff like Hetfield, solo like Friedman, shred like Michael Romeo, or be as weird and unique as Vai etc. And *if* there has, then they haven't been in a band of any notable influence or written any of their own material.

I don't consider my comments to be sexist because I'm not discrimating against girls on the sole basis that they are girls. Quite the opposite. I'll judge them exactly how I'd judge a male, and therefore if they aren't anything special I'd rather say so than go "that's pretty good for someone with ovaries".

And lets all be honest, how many youtube clips of teenage boys averagely playing Killswitch Engage songs do you see posted up here? :)

Jennifer Batten is the only one I know of. She played in Michael Jackson's band among other projects.

I went to one of her guitar clinics in the mid-90s and it was so funny: a room full of typical guitar-clinic-dudes waiting and talking shit "Ah, I bet she ain't that good!", "Well, Michael Jackson's music isn't really technical!", yadda yadda.

1 minute after she started playing you could start to collect dropped jaws off the floor. She did cool shit with the Digitech Whammy pedal too!

Just the first video I found on youtube.

Actually, she is rather decent looking. Problem is make-up and hairstyle as well as clothing. She basically looks like she just came out of bed ...

She could easily be made to look really good (although it would involve hair-extensions) and her playing is better than most chicks I've seen (not counting the Jennifer Batten-type ultra-rare exceptions) and definitely better than a lot of dudes I've heard in the past 10 years (who couldn't play tight rhythms if their life depended on them) ...

If you wonder why I am talking about makeup and hair: www.samiyahya.net - cause it's my job :)

I know what difference it does, but to me she was mostly "meh".
But on the other hands, im used to be in the same room as stupid thin blondes with double z-cups(To exaggerate a little.). ;)

Yeah I don't doubt you meant it this way, just wanted to be sure because I wasn't 100% certain :goggly:
