check out my latest metal mix \m/

Awesome indeed, ideal austere realy came to live!!!!
Did you get the recording vocals with e609 idea from the ilovemetal site or is this something you have been doing for a long time allready?

thnx JB!

now it's like actually listening to a band instead of a hihat and a band (on the old recording that was :S)
for your info: it's a 906, not a 609, slight difference that is. it's a bit comparable with the diffrence between SM58 and beta58.
i read about andy using a 609 it and a spoke with the singer about the sound he liked and what he felt comfortable with in the studio. turned out we HAD to use a handheld. the cool thing about the 609 or 906 is that you can't really cup it so you never get that awkward cupped sound unwanted, and like i mentioned before: the precence boost is really cool

Sounds fuckin sick dude the vox placement is awsome liek up front and in ur face but i relli dont think the snare fits unless thats the sound u guys were looking for

friggin great! don't you have a website for your studio? and the obvious question: what gear was used (especially for guitars)?

keep up with the great job! i wish the last hulud album sounded this good!

thnx man,

at the moment i'm working on setting up my own studio. i don't have my own space yet but i got most of the equipment i need. most of the time i work on differnt locations with bands in studio's and rehearsal rooms.
the only site i have right now is my myspace website www.myspace.com/xpzsound and working on my own official site too wich will be launched soon hopefully.

as for the gear questions:

drums was recorded at studio lobbes in the north of holland (www.studiolobbes.nl)
kit was a VERY old pearl export kit with pinstipes on tom and floor, powerstroke 3 on kick and evans G2 coated on snare.
cymbals were mostly zildjan A customs, a sabian trash ride, a stagg china and some paiste splashes i believe
mics used were:
kick inside: shure beta 91
kick outside: sennheiser e602
snare top: SM57
snare bottom: SM 57
HH: neumann KM184
tom: 421
floor: 421
ride: KM184
china: KM184
OH's: 414's
ambient high (7 feet above the kit) neumann M149
ambient low (7 feet in front of the kit aimed away) neumann M149

pre's were universal audio 2-610 for ambient mics, tubetech MP1A's for snare and toms, focusrite red for cymbals and OH's and avelon 2022 for kicks

bass was an ernie ball stingray 4 string 3eq tuned in B with poweslinkies 135, recorded direct from a tech21 sansamp.

some bass tracks from the studio sessions were used, most were punched in later in the rehearsal room sessions.

guitars were all played on an ESP LTD deluxe with seymour duncan JB 59 pickups
2 guitars recorded through tubescreamer -> peavey 5150 crunch channel -> marshall 1960 TV cab with greenbacks -> SM57 -> STAudio preamp
these guitars were panned 100L / 100R @ 0 db in the mix
2 guitars were recorded through tubescreamer -> marshall JCM800 2204 -> same cab, same mic, same pre
these were panned 70L / 70 R @ -5 db in the mix

vocals i explained before...
