Lover of all boobage.
You know I was reading the pdf to my UX2 and one of the preamp models emulates these.
I am sure they sound nothing alike however.

yea dude there is all kinds of company's that make not only preamps but compressors and eq's to fit the lunchbox...
Just picked these up the other day. I spent a week in the states & took advantage of the tax break.

These sound simply amazing on heavy rhythms & lead guitars. Quite shocking, actually. I bought these for drums, mainly. So far I've only had my crappy ass drumming to work with, but I've got a new project coming in on Saturday so I'll be able to put them through thier paces.
Even with me playing, I noticed a serious improvement on overheads, as opposed to the Ward Becks I've been running for the last few years.
I'll get some clips up as soon as I can.

Well, the certainly work on guitar, don't they? On the downside, yeah, they were pretty expensive, but with the CDN dollar worth so much (about a 5c difference from the USD) I couldn't say no. Four years ago the exchange rate was something ridiculous like 60%. With taxes, these would have cost just under double the sticker price after exchange. I think these cost right around $3400 Canadian once all the taxes & exchange was figured in. Considerably cheaper than the $5900 or so it would have cost four years ago. I've been hoping to own these forever....
That being said, I know that these are quality pieces of gear that will last a lifetime. I can plug in a mic & I know it'll sound good on any critical application.
Digital stuff comes & goes, but you can't go wrong with something that's been proven to sound great for over 30 years.
Well worth the investment, IMHO!

I'm thinking about a more coloring pre to compliment my apis, I thought about great river, neve, ssl vintech etc.
how do your vintech and great river compare to the api?
