check these killer slayer shoes

kinda makes you wonder about the ultimate question.

Would you still love metal if metal was the main stream music ?
lets try to imagine a hypothetical situation, where Britney spears and the MTV music is underground, and metal music as we know it, is the main thing.
Would you still love it ?

Same with those shoes, u know?
Slayer are becoming all main stream and big, having their own merchandise and toys, and some people hate it.
Reminds me the reactions I heard when people first saw the bands-logo thongs and coffee mugs. .
Has anyone seen it ?

Well, one form of metal is mainstream... not Testament's form, tho, for example. A band like Children of Bodom can appeal more to teeny boppers cause of it's keyboards and catchy choruses and melodies. For something to be mainstream, it must have something that appeals to the masses, right? Testament, back in the day, appealed to the 80's mainstream, but today? No way... they're much too hardcore for them ever to be mainstream, it just wouldn't happen... unless it was some parallel universe where death metal was pop. It bugs me when ppl ask this question, because it's just as you said: hypothetical. It'd never happen.

I hate Slayer, not because of merchandising, but because imo their music has deteriorated steadily in quality from what they used to be. Well, I never liked Slayer much in the first place, so that has something to do with it too... I definitely think bands should draw the line at some point in merchandise, tho. There's shirts, and then there's special old skool skate shoes that aren't old skool. But hey, who am I to judge? I'm not in the position to make a bunch of money for signing a piece of paper.

How could you say Testament and mainstream in the same sentence? You have got to be kidding right? If you have ever read Testament's bio, then you would have never made that comment. Maybe you should be on the Squirrel Nut Zippers website?

This is funny. :hotjump:

I didn't mean they were millionaires, I meant that it had the 80's vibe... the fast, heavy riffing... it appealed to many, just as Slayer and Megadeth did (in different ways, but they shared some aspects). Nowadays they have death metal influences that didn't exist back then. I mean, there's radio music, there's popular, and then there's garage band. Testament was popular, but not in any means a radio band, obviously. I thought you'd understand what I meant.

you know,

its sad what happened with Metallica, for example.
although, i like evolution in music, i agree that there have to be some red lines..
evolution, fine.
but becoming what metallica has become.. . err :err:

but its sad about slayer.
i love their old albums, but i hate their new stuff.
maybe its just me.

i couldnt care less about merchandising, and if a band wants to have more money- go for it.

That's exactly how I feel, could'nt of said it better........its sad what happened to Metallica, and I don't care to much for new Slayer, its not just you........And if bands want to mechandize, then go for it.......You know Testament was endorsed by Vision footwear, back in the 80's(I still have my black hightops), so what, the band was making & playing some killer music......bottom line: who cares what was on their feet........nobody was saying they were selling out!.........

PS-If Children Of Bodom were selling Pink Ballet Slippers........Then Stun would be a Ballerina!.........Although he already is a Nutcracker!

I totally agree with you. What does some extra marketing and money making projects have to do with music? Personally, I could care less if Ozzy does The Osbourne's, of if Chuck wears breads in his hair? All this has nothing to do with going mainstream imho, JUST BRING ON THE MUSIC

I really don't understand the attitude about Slayer...they did 2 questionable songs (which in my opinion..no nu-metal band could ever match on their best day) and all of a sudden all the "hard core" Slayer fans stop listening to them. I bet most of you have been so hung up on the fact that Slayer didn't put Reign in Blood or South of Heaven out over and over..you have never even made it through anything since then. Well I've gotta tell ya...80% of the newer albums are Slayer to a Tee. They HAVE stuck to the same old formula. Sure..there are some nu-metal influences in some songs, but there are also some great Slayer songs.

I love how people are so against nu metal that they will completely drop a band they like if there are any hints of it in their music. I can understand if it's the whole album *cough*The burining red*cough*

Oh well...it's all opinions huh? I still like 'em and until they put out an entire album that sux ass..I'm a fan (and it'll probably take at least a couple of albums like that to completely turn me)

*gets of of her soapbox*

:Spin:

Now as far as Metallisuck they have sealed their coffin...St Anger was the final nail..............stick a fork in 'em......they're DONE!

actually?
you're wrong,
im not against nu-metal at all.
its something that has developed from metal music, and goes back to year 1990
(for me, the first “new school” nu metal album was Prong- Beg to Differ)
I have nothing against it, and sometimes I can even find good nu-metal albums, or some great songs.

One of the biggest mistakes people do, and that’s why people are so “against” new things so much, is because people are too busy with comparing.

For example: Cradle Of Filth.
Remember the year 1996 when it was “so cool” to hate this band and to say: “huh! Its not black metal!”
Well,
Fuck that. Stop compare bands to a certain gender, if you would listen to Cradle (for example) with “clean ears” without comparing them to any style that has already build in your head by other people- you’ll discover a great band.
And I don’t care to say that Cradle of Filth is an excellent band.
Sure, they are not evil and “satanic” as Immortal or Emperor, but who cares?
If you like something, what different does it make ?

The biggest joke in the metal scene nowadays is people who go: “oh I cant listen to this band, its too Swedish and Gothenburg style”
FYI- the word: “Guthenburg style” was invented by reporters and magazines.
Fuck that – if you like something, then like it.

Now why am I typing so much ?
Oh yeah, to tell you about slayer and nu – metal .
Personally?
I don’t like it that much.
I didn’t like the albums I listened to by Slayer. They were too catchy in my opinion, and even if I can find a good song or two in the new stuff, I still think they are going down hill, and the fact that they adopted the “nu metal elements” has nothing to do with it.

Take Anathema for example… in the old days there were death metal!!!!
But the evolution they have chosen for their music is fucking brilliant.

Gah, I type too much.
Anyways, if you like the new Slayer- have fun with it :Spin:

You know Testament was endorsed by Vision footwear, back in the 80's(I still have my black hightops), OMG I tough t I ws the only person left on earth with a pair  Slayr shoes are ok, I guess, They'd look better in high tops, hey, gotta make the $$$ anyway you can these days. I'd buy a Slayer coffee cup, whatch you lookin' at?:dopey:

@MindInsane: This isn't anything to do with nu-metal, like Dead_Lioness said. I haven't heard any songs by them that sound like nu-metal (but I haven't heard all of their songs)... but I've certainly heard entire albums that disappointed me except for a few parts of songs (in early and new Slayer).

@Dead_Lioness: Ah, thank you for saying what I wanted to say. But I also want to say that I'm not one of those ppl who look at CoF as a black metal band at all. But I still don't like them... People told me to check them out cause they said it was awesome, and I heard a few different songs, but liked none, and only heard one entire album from them - which was Midian, and I was disappointed. Every song pretty much sounded the same (same techniques used over and over, like the different voices and whispers on different speakers alternating, that good old real fast), exept for the really stupid one where they just repeat "archangel, darkangel, etc", of course, but it was in a league of its own. I really hope that they have other albums that are better, because it seemed everyone recommended Midian...
