I'm searching for good christmas music. Covers of christmas carols or original stuff. Any recommendations?

(obviously, I already have the Alvin and the Chipmunks' Christmas casette.)

My dad has this record with Bing Crosby, Burl Ives, Nat King Cole, and Mel Torme among others singing Christmas classics, it's REALLY good Christmas music, so festive.
My family listens to it on Christmas Eve when we open our presents that are from each other while we sip egg nog and cider and eat fudge and triscuits with cheese spread. So yeah, I'd say get anything by those guys that I mentioned.

here's another thread i did about this with some links to stuff on amazon i thought sounded interesting:

also, i have the first harry connick jr one (when my heart finds xmas- listening to it right now, actually) and it's really good. haven't heard the new one though.

actually, i'm writing an indieworkshop editorial about this and will top this thread with a link when it's done. hope to finish it tomorrow.

I love Christmas music to death, but I can't listen to it until December, or at least after Thanksgiving, before that seems to early.

there is a lynyrd skynyrd christmas album but the thought makes me shudder.

a couple of the tracks:
1. Santa's Messin' With the Kid (in light of the latest michael jackson imbroglio, this is perhaps inappropriate)
2. Santa Wants Some Lovin' (a cringe inducing thought)

It conjures up images of drunken hillbillies with 16oz Pabst Blue Ribbon empties littering the floor, and dozens of children who are all related to each other.

on a positive note, I have a CD with the David Bowie/Bing Crosby version of Little Drummer Boy. far more sweet than the initial impression.
