Pantera is the only metal I really listen to. I respect the talent and skill it takes to play metal, but I find the "artistic merit" (if that's what you want to call it) to be nonexistant and painful to listen to.

Metal is actually home to quite a few "artistic" bands, however they are usually pretty obscure.

Some random examples of metal bands that (imho) have plenty of artistic merit:

Agalloch

Be'lakor

Daylight Dies

Slumber

Neurosis/Isis/Pelican/Tides (if you want to count post-metal)

Scale The Summit

Swallow the Sun

Wolves In The Throne Room

Clad in Darkness

Orphaned Land

Alcest/Amesoeurs

Sepia Dreamer

To name a few...

It's pretty awesome to be included in a list such as that. I agree about the album. I've always had the feeling that after it is recorded properly, it's seriously going to make waves. I'm not saying this because I am in the band or anything, but purely as a music-listener. I can't wait to hear it.

tab for venerated's "you don't understand me":

you can blame Venerated for the whole Nu Metal Craze
and blame Amaurosis for the whole Metalcore craze
