hey, does anyone know who designed the classic circular speed metal logo and where it first appeared?

It's on the Bathory vinyl? Wow, the symbol is older than I thought. I just always associated it with the Canadian scene because that's where I've always seen it. So basically I guess I have no answer to your question whatsoever.

yes the logo is fairly old. it is not on any other pressing of the bathory vinyl i have seen. this is however a canadian pressing on 'banzai'. but i cant really find any info about them. i think they were a canadian distributer of early black/thrash. so the canadian angle helps. its probably a good bet that it is theirs. do you recall on what other you have seen it?

I've mostly seen it on the vinyl reissues of Witches Hammer stuff put out by Nuclear War Now! Productions...though I also notice a large amount of attention to the symbol on the Brave Words and Bloody Knuckles forum, which is a Canadian magazine and whose posters are largely Canadian...so maybe it is a Canadian thing after all. Maybe Banzai started using the label and it caught on?

After a brief bit of research, it appears that my hypothesis was correct; it seems as though the symbol was used (if not created) widely by Banzai Records on all of their pressings, and it caught on from there. It also seems that there's some backlash against Banzai pressings for being rather cheaply made.

thanks man. you rule. the vinyl is pretty flimsy but the sound is fairly impressive. exceeded my expectations by far. i dont think it was played much before i got it though.
