Only in the past year have I started to get into metal (Devin Townsend, Om, Made out of Babies, Battle of Mice to name) but what other genres do you entertain beyond of metal?

I'm a classical singer and I tend to listen to a lot of music from the Impressionist period and beyond. Debussy is probably my favorite composer. Twentieth century American art song is really growing on me. I love Samuel Barber, he can be so quirky at times, but he really brings certain texts to life through composition (Hermit Songs is a prime example). Totally love Israel Citkowitz and Amy Beach is also pretty cool.

I've been getting into volkmusik German lieder, art song as well, like Hugo Wolf. I've been also experimenting a bit with Wagner's Ring Cycle. And John Adam's Nixon in China, shit is awesome.

Nice selections. I like how John Adams isn't really the atypical "Minimalist" composer as he was pegged early in his career and has totally gone into a sort of twentieth century-ish American style.

I have a few pieces of Hugo Wolf. Manly his songs from poetry by Goethe and a Spanish songs. Nothing beats late German Romanticism to bring out the emo in poetry

I agree, I like how Adams has evolved over his career, more on an experimental, Neo-Classical bend. I'm going to be performing that aria I believe next week, so I'll post a recording if it goes well!

And yes, German Romanticism has some super, super emo moments

I started my music career with classical piano training.
I must say I love classical music and my favorite composers are Beethoven, Bach, and Tchaikovsky.

Tchaikovsky is the man! Do like Dvorak or Stravinsky?

Whenever I ask anyone if they dig dStravinsky I have to preface with either early Stravinsky, Neo-Classical Stravinsky, Neo-Classical with early Stravinsky mega mix, or later atonal-modern Stravinky
