Hey Jocke,

I've been hearing Zak talking about this in recent interviews and I was wondering if we could get some details on this straight from the source? ;)

Zak mentioned you're going to have guests on the record that you met on your way/are friends/are important in Clawfinger history...

So are you going to re-record the whole thing or will this be a re-mix? How far are you into this and when can we expect it to drop?

And of course, every info about the recording side of things would be highly appreciated! :)

Looking forward to it, "DDB" has become somewhat of a modern classic and the importance of that record for the band goes without saying...

Wow! Thanks man! ;)

Well yes, we're going into FAL studios tomorrow to record the album like if we'd made the songs today. Some of the songs are quite well arranged but others could be a lot better without too much effort IMO, so we're going to rearrange those less interesting songs, while maintain the feeling (as we remembered it) from the early 90's. We have talked to people we've got to know during the years, and got some positive answers, but it's just speculation on what band/artists that'll be in the final product, so I'd rather not say too much.

We'll be recording the basics this week. Drums, bass, guitars, vocals and some samples/loops/pads/noises. Then we'll think about who we want to do what and go from there. Maybe add different loops, pads etc. It's supposed to be fun for us, without too much "OMG THIS HAS TO BE THE BEST BLABLABLA". We have dug up the old demo recordings that was made with a 4-track tape recorded. Those were the days ;) Maybe we do a "progression sheet" starting with the demo, to the original album and todays inferno of technology. We'll be discussing this during this week too. It'll be interesting though, I think.

I'll try to update with some recording info as we go along. We have cameras and stuff. ;)

Cool, thanks for the info Jocke! Looking forward to the updates (any info/pics will be highly appreciated)!

Will this also be a comeback of the long hair? You know, to get "into that mood" again? :D

Alright. First day:

Spent some time to avoid using the old Mackie D8B desk, since the AD/DA converters makes things sound like a PODxt. ;)

Rigged and miked the drums. Did some tests and recorded a couple of songs just like they were, just to get things going. Then we sat down and started to throw out ideas we'd thought about. Recorded some additional drums to test the ideas and arranged some more. Looks like we'll be using live cymbals and fake kick, snare and toms. We tried it and after the initial "it doesn't feel the same" comments, the benefits of the setup won. After a couple of hours, Micke (drummer) was in the control room, changing fills and added/removed kicks and snares. If we feel that he need to do another take, we don't have to think about tuning the drums. We all know that drum heads tend to change the tune after a couple of hours of drumming. It was his first time doing it though, so I totally understand why he was a bit suspicious in the beginning.

So far we only have scratch tracks so nothing interesting there.

I'll update more tomorrow.

Thanks guys.

Day 2: Recorded more drums, and started with the bass, since Micke (drummer) had to go to a gig in another town. Sometimes it's a bitch being a session player ;). Tried a couple of different basses before we settled with the Epi Firebird André use live. Used the Axe-FX to split the signal and recorded one distorted and one DI signal. The distorted was the "Das Metal" ampsim (Diezel VH4) into an Ampeg 4x12 miked with a Ribbon. Nice growl, with deep low end. I think it'll sound good in the mix. Otherwise I can always reamp the DI, if a couple of hundred dB's gain/cut can't bring out the goodies. :)

12 hour days are really bad though. We might have to edit some takes tomorrow, but I hope not. As long as it feels good, I don't think a sloppy note or two makes a difference.

We'll do more drums/bass tomorrow.

1st week recap: We've done the drums (maybe), the bass (sure) and most of the vocals. We had scratch guitars that worked as a guide unless we had some new ideas. We've pretty much recorded the song as they were on the original album, just to have something to start with. After the vocals are done, it's time to fuck it up and see if we can do some fucked up shit to it. Since the idea was to make it like we'd do it today (at least in my head), I can think about at least a couple of ideas that could be updated. But that's me, and you guys know what I like. ;)
