Local guy is selling a Command 8 for $500. I'm looking at getting more into automation and a control surface in general seems like it could really help my workflow overall. How do you guys feel about the Command 8 and using s control surface in general and is it a good grab for $500 for someone using PT like me?

Pretty sure jval here uses it with PT8 and it's still in production, I can't imagine they would sell a product that is only compatible with software that isn't available anymore? Thanks for the heads up though, going to look into it to confirm.

If i were in your position i would buy it,
list price is $12k new, $500 is a bargain.

i haven't used the command8, but i have used the D-Command on the HD rigs in college, it was pretty sweet having a nice control surface.

go for it man

$12K!? I think you may be confusing the command 8 with the control 24 dude?

I've used the command 8 pretty frequently, nice piece of gear imo. Does what it needs to without any unnecessarily complicated extra features added on to make things difficult.

the command 8 is big unit for what it does, id prefer the mackie pro control, its tidier and expandable. Plus using a control surface is a rarity, i thought that id be always using the faders and surface on the C24, but i didn't, i find its just as quick with the virtual mixer, the one thing the C24 was handy for was multiple soloing/mutes!
