Composing in the workplace

I'm sure everyone has had a riff or two pop into their head at work... The other day I practically wrote a whole song in my head while cleaning the kitchen (chinese restaurant.) I ended up making a bunch of notes to myself on my phone, and even calling a friend and beatboxing some riffs onto his voicemail. If I was faster at notating music I could've probably written it down, but my boss would get mad (WHY YOU NO WORKING!) How do you guys deal with this problem?

Voice memo on the phone. I used to write it down in standard notation when I was in class a million years ago. That's a challenging exercise but recording the riff (singing it or playing) is way faster/easier.

I've found that stuff you compose in your head, 90% of the time, end up to be music you've already heard at some point.

I have the same problem at my work... I go to the bathroom immediately and sing it into my phone.

Well.. I work IT for my university. So I'm always on my computer. And most of the time, I am writing music

I always use the voice memo on my phone. I hum melodies and DUN CHUGGA DUN CHUGGA into it all the time.

Voice memo in Iphone, got tons of them not tabbed yet, happens a lot in the crapper to me. I suck donkey balls at remembering, I never remember what that was 30 seconds after I stop humming it, so it must be immediate
