Cool Recent 'Old School' Stuff -

Might be old news to most fans of this genre & you'll need to get over the cheesy band name but I think they are worth the effort. Metal Inquisitor is a Traditional Metal band from Germany with 'Metalucifer's' Blumi on Guitars.

I was able to track down a couple samples here. Some of the better tracks on 'Doomsday For The Heretic (2005)' are not available for DL and I haven't heard the other CD's yet. Of the 3 sample offered here; I'd say Starchaser is closest to the overall feel of the album (though their style varies somewhat).

Among the traditional metal bands from the last years, in my opinion Metal Inquisitor are one of the best. I haven´t heard their first album, "The apparition", but "Doomsday for the heretic" got it all for fans from the style.

It´s not so epic as other bands we have talked here in other threads. It´s more "in your face" traditional heavy stuff but here and there you can listen epic parts too. Vocals are quite good too.

My faves are: "Midnight rider" and, above all, amazing "Logan´s run" but I like a lot the whole album.

Yeah! Another amazing band for KIT 10.

I´m listening now again "Doomsday for the deceiver". They don´t write anything original but... what an album!! Fantastic songs.

I'm aware of the band but I've not yet heard Metal Inquisitor, will check them out soon.

The most "recent" old school album that peeked my interest was Bewitched Pentagram Prayer but that was from '97 or something. Bewitched are still recording new material, I just havent caught/kept up. Presently, they involve two Naglfar members. In the past, Blackheim (Katatonia) was in them too..

Yeah

Bewitched are Ok, nothing special but a good band.

I got "Pentagram prayer", "Diabolical desecration" and the last one "Spiritual warfare".

Both "Pentagram..." and "Diabolical..." are a kind of blacker version of Bathory and Venom. just take a look to "Encyclopedia of Evil" EP to see their influences. However, sound isn´t as raw as Bathory or Venom early releases and that adds a modern approach to black metal from the second part of the nights.

"Spiritual warfare" owns much more personality. Guitar work is great and in the slow parts it reminds me to mighty and cult Ophtalamia´s "Via dolorosa". Quite atmospheric and dark I guess.
An interesting album.
