Founded upon the ashes of No Way Out, a metal band that had been existing since late 1999, Drifting Breed took its current shape in 2003 when Jonathan became the new drummer and Jérémie completed the line-up as the new bass player (the name Drifting Breed was chosen in 2001). It was the very moment when the Parisian combo (Paris and suburbs, to be more precise) refined their musical orientation and let their current style come to them, as they had been maturing it for months. If the principal elements of DBs music are the aggression, heaviness and groove of 90s thrash metal and metalcore, one can also detect various influences that tend to make DBs music more personal, such as the fury and the hysteria of death-metal or grindcore, and also a melodic dimension and a gloomy aspect that could remind you of the darkest side of metal.
Its kind of normal anyway, for all of the 5 band members have had a huge variety of influences growing on them through the years, be it metal or rock music in the broadest sense of the term.
Thats it for the form, voluntarily dissociated from the substance of which you can catch a glimpse by looking at the bands name (An allusion to mankind?).
Indeed, the most important thing for Drifting Breed is the music, the one we love, the one that has been thrilling us for years, the one that gave us the desire to form a band and make our own sound without even thinking, in the beginning, that we could bring any contribution to the scene, at our own tiny level.
Thats why we have no leitmotiv, cause to fight for or favourite target. Dont expect demagogic claiming from us or an excess of positivism, just expect a bitter view of our personal experiences. This statement would sound a bit clichéd if we didnt endeavour to write in a personal and intimate manner.
We have a kind of perverse relationship with those surroundings that are, at the same time, a source of inspiration and a source of frustration. Drifting Breed as a catharsis? It may be too soon to tell but Drifting Breed as an outlet for anger, most probably! Something that will keep us gathered together, whatever happens, thats certain
The band recorded its first demo song New World in August of 2003 and the first demo EP, Hope Hereafter was released in March of 2005. This first opus contains 5 tracks (including an intro) written and arranged between 2002 and 2004, its purpose is to give a foretaste of our next releases. Indeed, the new songs are more extreme be it in terms of brutality, groove or melody. For now, well carry on the writing process while spending this year promoting the EP on stage and in the media.
We wish you a nice listening session and we hope youll give us some good feedback!
