Country anyone?

:o
i do. i like patsy cline sometimes....or the outlaw country people.....like waylon jennings, merle haggard and THE MAN johnny cash. the song cash did that danzig wrote, 13, on one of his releases on american is fucking awsome...quite depressing.
lucinda williams is good, but shes more folk/rock than country, i guess.
now bluegrass-i dont like it very much bluegrass, but FUCK i respect anyone who can play a banjo really good. now that shit is hard...

I just love Shania Twain.

...not a big fan of her music, mind you, but the videos are great.

(Actually, her stuff is "alright" as a pop crossover, compared to the other shit played on the radio today, but that's a lowest common denominator sort of reasoning...)

I must admit, though, X, you scared the shit out of me.

not really something i like, what with the inbred families with 20 brothers and 1 sister, and well lets just say the sister has a lot of children with her brothers :feel sick face: i find country annoying anyway.:p

I used to live in Mississippi so I was around country music quite a bit. I don't listen to it, but I'd rather hear country music than rap. (notice how I didn't say rap music)

Johnny Cash doing a Danzig tune...hmmm, I might have to check that out. :err:

My prof in college wrote some songs for Shania Twain before she became famous (in Timmins, Ontario)..

Some old "storytelling" country is good, and since I heard someone mention Nick Cave.. I'll second that. He's really good.

but I'd rather hear country music than rap. (notice how I didn't say rap music)

I couldn't agree more! Most of this newer country music is just another form of mainstream pop. I have nothing against it, though it isn't for me. I like that Charlie Daniels song "The Devil Went Down to Georgia". I want to hear it performed on a metal-sounding guitar!

I think a lot of you aren't realising the difference between 'proper' country 9ala Johnny Cash, Hank Williams III etc) and this Nashville Big Hat rubbish (ala Garth Brooks etc).

Having said that, I do like Shania Twain for her music...

you guys are crazy!!!

how can you rather listen to *country* than rap?!?!? last thing i need is more three major-chorded songs...

yes im crazy, but not because i like some country music!

i want to say in defense of country that for the most part even the horrible mainstream shit has 100...no...200% better lyric content than -most- rap. and at least the country music people are usually playing the three chords on an instrument themselves instead of talking to a machine thats doing it for them.

and furthermore, like i said earlier, bluegrass is some of the most difficult shit in the world to play. if you couldnt accept something from the country genre over rap, youd probably never find out about that though. pick up some bela fleck sometime and then bitch about three major chorded songs.

I thought this might be a thread about a country. I never actually gave the genre of country a thought. I'm not much of fan unless the person is actually showing some talent with a musical instrument and NOT just singing.

"Some old "storytelling" country is good..." :tickled:

OK. I was watching TV the other day and they had an ad for classical storytellers and they would show a few clips here and there of, I guess, their videos.    Some of them...I was like...COME ON! There was this one and this old guy was like...a news broadcaster sitting behind a desk TALKING and there was some music in the background. If you can play an instrument and make it sound good...then hooray. But don't just sit there and talk (like some rap) and expect me to be impressed.

Now, "Hot Rod Lincoln" is good stuff.

Well, I love hip hop as well.

'Talking into a machine' my arse.

*Sucks teeth*

yeah! i like hip hop like de la soul, digable planets and the roots, stuff like that! its this gangsta shit that kills me, shit with stupid lyrics and the stupid obsession for material wealth...the 'bling-bling' if you will.
kind of like how i think the overt satanism and wanton violence in a lot of metal gets old...its just that every genre of music has so many styles within it. before people go around generalizing, talking about how lame all country is or how bad rap sucks, they might consider looking below the surface! or if not, just doing like black dragon, which is very cool-just saying hey i personally dont like it! ; )

I'm not a big fan of southern accents, southern pride, or southern culture.

ha! me either! ; ) i had this cultural geography class, and maybe i was brainwashed and im just thinking this to feel better about myself, but supposedly here in northeast TN we are not simply southern, were appalachian! apparently these mountains were settled by scotch/irish immigrants, and so its unique to a degree...yeah lots of idiots drive around with rebel flags on their trucks and shit (OMG-funny story i absolutely have to relate here-this rednecked-out truck was driving around the other day with a BRITISH FLAG in the back window with their harley davidson sitckers instead of the REBEL FLAG-they had obviously gotten confused! i laughed so hard i almost wrecked!)

i do like folk people/cultures in general though. much less wastefull and more self sufficent....
i wouldnt say im "proud" of my heritage...so much as just not ashamed of it anymore. :p i just try not to think about my accent. hehe.

OK! what do you get when you play opeth backwards? "the embrace of your lover 'neath a veil of stars back....???" haha!

:tickled:
